  2. Hi there! I have a question about using an external mic when recording video on the A7: I've plugged a wireless Sony URX-P03 receiver, which is connected to a UTX-B03 receiver with a clip-on mic to record an interview. It sounds to me like the A7 is automatically mixing the audio from the clip-on Mic together with the internal mic from the camera itself, as you hear a lot of background noise in the interview I'm shooting (see and hear here). However, I can't find any setting on the A7 to choose which audio sources to record and/or to turn off the internal mic. Any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance! Tim Metz
  3. I have an a7 with Sony VG-C1EM battery grip which worked great for about 6 months but now loses power angling the camera down or just bumping it when turned to portrait. I put tape on the back of the batteries to make them more snug but that made the cam not power up at all. Im not sure which of the 4 contacts are shifting during movement. When I return to using a single battery in the camera without the grip it has no issues whatsoever. I purchased the grip from Bestbuy about a year ago for $248 so I would like to get at least a few years out of it if not much longer. Any experience with this issue and any solutions that have been discovered? Greatly appreciate any help in advance
  4. Hello Forum, I love reading the Sonyalpharumors and I love my Sony A7. Enclosed you will find some shots with the Loxia 2.8/21mm. Should anyone be interested in seeing more photos from me, I uploaded some more here: flickr 500px Trees are poems the earth writes upon the sky by Holger, on Flickr The Church and the Frozen Lake by Holger, on Flickr Blue Hour Frankfurt by Holger, on Flickr Gailingen am Hochrhein - Blue Hour by Holger, on Flickr
  5. Hi SAR forum readers, I was recently hiking in Nepal, slipped and fell and my camera fell out of my bag and tumbled down the side of the cliff. I went to look for it and then myself tumbled ~200ft. down the side of the cliff and almost died. My Sony NEX 6 survived the fall! But got beat up pretty bad, so i'm going to keep it as a back up and purchase a new camera. I was looking at the A6300 and it looks great, plus I already have a nice 50mm E mount lens, so I quite like that camera. However, i'd really like a full frame camera, so I'm curious what your suggestions would be for a comparable full frame sony camera as well as what your suggestion would be A6300 or full frame. Edit: After looking a bit more it seems like the A6300 doesn't improve too much on stills which is what i'm looking for so now i'm contemplating going after the A6000 over the A6300. To give a little context, I'm a (somewhat inexperienced) amateur photographer that travels all the time. As such I love taking pictures of the beautiful scenery. I vastly prefer taking photos of landscape compared to urban environments. I've been using an NEX 6 for the past three years and have absolutely loved it. I have the f1.8 50mm E mount lens, and but i mostly shot with the 16-50mm on the go because of the versatility but it died in the fall. I also have one other question. Can I use a FE lens on an E-mount lens? It looks like Sony is shifting focus on lens to the FE lens so I'd like to have a compatible camera. Also, what would be a good lens or two to get with the camera (both full frame and A6300)? Thanks in advance for your help. If you have any questions let me know.
  6. After having my camera for a while, it has started to make a louder, almost grinding noise when I take photos. Has anyone else had this issue? Any ideas on wheat it might be? (Dirt, dying, etc)
  7. "Front-End Filter Solution" to get corner-to-corner sharpness A welcome topic launched to solve the problems with legacy lenses without changing the the thick filter in front of the sensor. Correct the problem by putting a front-end filter. See topic started here. Would like to share this because the more people become aware of this the better the solutions will be. see here: http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1453834/0
  8. Anyone interested in the Sony FE 28mm F2? I just finished editing my youtube review for it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1nB2OeZBj0ULTIMATE VIDEO REVIEW Let me know if it was useful
  9. I just upgraded from a Canon t2i to the Sony A7ii. Loving the sony world. Looking to purchase an affordable lens for astrophotography. Previously I used the Rokinon 16mm f/2.0, but that only works for crop sensors. So need to upgrade. What do you recommend? I really like the Rokinon lenses, particularly the Rokinon 24mm f/1.4 ($549 USD), but does it make more sense to get a Canon EF mount and just use an adapter. Or is there an advantage to use the Sony E mount.
  10. I have my A7R2 in air plane mode to save on battery power but what else is sucking the battery down when not in use and switched off? does any one know how long memory, copyright info etc is stored if the battery is out? is it stored on a eprom or is there a backup battery inside ?
  11. Hi, User LCT mentioned a few time the Kolari thin filter conversion on his a7s. I am considering it for my a7m2 and I was wondering if anyone else had experience with this conversion? Are there any potential down sides in doing this conversion? any caveat I should be aware of before considering the conversion? How was the conversion process/interaction with Kolari? Roger Cicala @ lensrentals wrote a review of a kolari modified a7r - seems pretty positive. Colin
  12. Hi, new here. Posting some of my abstract work. I removed the colour from the image and added false colour in to suit the mood i was going for. I also mirrored the image in photoshop. My settings are as follows: Camera: a7 Lens: Samyang 85mm f/1.4 Shutter speed: 1/800 ISO: 100 Aperture: f/1.4 Check out my website at: http://www.synaestheticaphoto.com/ Any comments and questions are welcome
  13. Hi All, First time poster, long time lurker. I have a technical question about camera mounts. When Nikon and Canon introduce their own full frame mirrorless cameras (to compete with the A7) how likely is it that they will have to use a different mount system (in the same way Sony had to switch from the old A mount system for the A7)? Put another way, will Nikon and Canon users face the same problems we face with Minolta/A mount lenses? Will they have to buy adapters, etc. or is it technically possible to make a new mount that would accommodate old, DSLR-style lenses on a mirrorless body? I asked this because I often go through the pendulum swing of deciding whether to sell my A850 and minolta/Zeiss lenses and switch to Nikon (since I don't want to settle for an inadequate adapter to use my current lenses on an A7). However, since I think it's likely that mirrorless will eventually become the standard FF system in the future (and because there are things I like about EVFs, etc.) it would be galling to sell all my equipment, buy a D800 and lenses and then, in five or six years, have to buy an adapter to use them on a new Nikon mirrorless camera! Thanks for any collective wisdom...
  14. I will admit i do love the sony alpha cameras for many reasons, and coming from shooting with Nikon higher end bodies expect quality in my files. Having said that i still find myself at times wondering if my sony will turn on each time i get it out. Let me explain, and i have already said i love shooting with them for reasons of light weight , smaller footprint, EVF, and wifi, but at times when the camera is turned off and in my camera bag i will get it out to start a shoot and turn it on only to have to wait for a couple of seconds while it does whatever its doing, its like i woke it up from a long nap or someting and it has to gather its thoughts before it knows what its supposed to do LOL.... Seriously thats the one thing about the sony well my a6xxx series and a7rii , they take such great shots but i just worry as will they last and be durable like im used to having with my Nikons? Whats your thought on durability? had any glitches , weird instances or all been good so far?
  15. Help! I have an A7 and an A6000. I cleaned the sensor on both today using the VSGO kit. When I was finished I tried to turn them on. The A7 was completely dead. Changed battery, Dead. Same again with the third battery. I would expect these would all be 70 to 90% at this point. I tried the A6000 with a fourth battery (already in the A6000) and it worked. I moved that battery to the A7, dead. Put it back in the A6000, dead. Removed the last strands of hair from my head. I put the battery that had worked, back in the A6000. Dead. I swapped lenses on the A6000 and turned it back on. Worked. Put that battery in the A7, dead. It appears the A7 is fooling the battery into not working. Any ideas would be very gratefully received :)
  16. Hello, I'm curious to know if these two lenses can be effectively used in FF bodies without invoking crop mode. For instance, in my Pentax APS-C setup, I can use my 35mm and 50mm lenses in compatible FF bodies (film and DSLR). There is very slight vignetting, but I can get a full frame view out of them. Has anyone else tried these two lenses in FF mode?
  17. Greetings, I am in need of professional instructional lessons/tutorials. I have an A7 purchased 5 years ago for concert photography. I did not have time to learn to use it properly. I am reading "From Snapshots to Great Shots" by Brian Smith. However, Video learning is preferred. As of 2017 I am doing more drummer shoots where I would like to utilize the A7. I have worked for the Chicago Drum and Pasic. I am also a house photographer for Venue Works in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Thank you Drummer Photographer Instagram: @drummer_photograher

  20. From the album: A7 + Legacy Lenses

A7 1/60 f8 iso: 2500 + Cokin P linear polarizer This was shot with a late Konica Hexanon AR 28mm f3.5 lens. It was quite dark out at 6AM. I was looking for a nice and compact 28mm with sharp corners. The Konica AR has a very short focal flange distance for an SLR. The lens is a bit slow for some applications, but it is great for landscape; where I usually shoot at f8.
  21. Hi All, I'm curious about your opinion of the a6000. I currently have the basic a5000 and, honestly, have been impressed with its performance using a 55-210mm lens. I can get gorgeous images with terrific bokeh, I like the size, and I'm not bothered by some grain. I currently have the 16-50mm and 55-210mm lenses, which have served my photo avocation needs just fine, and would like to continue using them with a better camera. I've been looking at the A7, A7ii, a6500 and a6000. I'm not crazy about the idea of having to start buying full-frame lenses for the A7 and A7ii, although I understand both will accommodate my current e-mount lenses. So right now, interestingly, I am leaning toward the economical a6000, mainly because it has an optical viewfinder, fast 11 fps continuous shooting, hybrid AF, and the 24 MP sensor. I tend to shoot a lot of close-ups and portrait shots, not usually in low light. Do you think I need the full frame sensor to "take my images to the next level?" And do I need the internal 5-axis in-body image stabilization in the a6500? My impression is that the Optical Steady Shot stabilization in my lenses is good enough. Would they be notably better with in-camera stabilization too? Thank you!! Here's are a couple of pictures I shot yesterday: butterfly cemetery sunset
  22. Hi, I am having a little problem with my Sony A7 camera. When set to 3:2, i try and choose my largest Megapixel setting and i should be able to select 24. However the largest available is 10. Im not sure if there is something i am missing? I have updated the firmware and still the largest Megapixel setting is 10. Can anyone help/ have any ideas that might help me out. Thank you
  23. Hey everyone! Just wondering if anyone can give me some recommendations for settings on the sony A7 mk1?. Going to shoot mostly stills in raw so not too worried about picture profiles just more setup info or any other pro tips. Also I've heard some bad things about bricking when doing firmware updates, is the newest firmware update any better and worth doing if it's out of date, I think 2016, 4.2 or 4.3 (something like that) is the newest version, also heard you get a better video codec with the update??... Thanks ?
  24. Hi All! My name is Josh and I'm a previous Canon owner. I used Canon cameras quite a bit (Canon T2i, 5D Mark II, 6D, 80D, 6D II, 5D Mark IV, and EOS R). I'm a hybrid shooter and I thought the camera to rule them all would have been the EOS R5, so I preordered. I read reviews, I watched test videos, I even watched Peter McKinnon to convince myself that this was it. This was the answer to all of my camerawomen woes (mainly 4:2:2 10 Bit and 4K 120p). Then I thought about it, and thought about it, watched some more Peter McKinnon and thought about it. I came to the conclusion that overheating, recording limits, and overall Canon's response to what people were asking was enough for me to leave. I decided to switch to Sony. But not just any Sony, I decided to preorder THE A7s III. I sold old, outdated, new but never used gear on Craigslist. Not to mention all of my beautiful glass. Now I'm here... Waiting... By the door. Is it September 24th yet?
