  1. Hi guys, im new to the forum and I have a problem kinda. I've been shooting with back-button-focus on my a6300. However, I don't get image stabilization as long as I hold the back-button-focus. Is there a way to solve this?
  2. I am looking for real use experience / recommendation on the Sony A6300 and associated lens for taking what one could argue is one of the harder shots to take without going to high end pro cameras and lens that cost a few thousand dollar: indoor action shots in which you need a zoom to get close enough to the subject with less than ideal lighting (think dance, indoor sports, etc.) I am coming from an older Nikon D80 with a Nikor 18-135 (F3.5-5.6) lens and taking any indoor action shots with it at zoom was not even possible. As I am looking to update my camera, I am looking to see what I would need to improve the one area I never could do with my Nikon. Again, I understand, that one really likely needs a $3K camera and a $5K lens to do this well, and something less to likely get acceptable shots. Considering the high majority of my use does not push the camera to this limits, I like the other features, size and price of the A6300 which is why I am really liking this as my next camera, but I am concerned I will not get much improvement over my Nikon D60 / lens to get much better for these indoor action shots. The only Sony lens that I think would come close is the 70-200 lens with an F stop of 2.8 but that itself would cost $2500 just for that one lens alone, and I am not even sure that would significantly improve my ability. Does anyone have any real world experience with the A6300 with indoor action shots with zoom and any reports you can provide and / or other lens recommendations?
  3. I just purchased a Sony Alpha 6300 from Best Buy. Today was the first day I used it and I can't seem to get the popup flash to fire. Is it me or is the camera defective? I tried multiple setting - automatic, P, A, S -etc. - no setting allowed the popup flash to work. Any ideas?? Thanks!

  5. I´m just on vacation in swiss. The shot shows the top of the Piz Bernina ( 4.049 m) - focal lenght at 450 mm hand held with the A6300.

  7. Greetings, I have a question about my A7ii. (or a6300) Is it possible to shoot tethered from my Sony directly to my Sony z4 Tablet. I have allready tried Play memories, but the picture transfer is realy slow and the liveview is also not the fastest I want a quick way to Check my Photos on location without carrying my Laptop. I would like to have a wired solution for this problem. Also is there a good way to use the z4 as Video Monitor? So i don't have to buy a Atomos or the CLM-FHD5. Thanks in advance. Lukas
  8. (The A6300 and the Zeiss Batis 25mm f/2, that is). But in fact it is quite a match. You end up with a wonderful full frame equivalent focal length of 37.5mm and top notch IQ. I have the Sony Zeiss 35mm f/2.8 and initially thought this would be the dream walk-about combo (and size-wise it is), but the Batis is a surprisingly light lens given its build quality and it handles perfectly fine on the A6300. So in the end I really favor the FOV and higher IQ of the Batis. Now I am looking forward to trying the Batis 85mm on the A6300 for portraits with a full frame equivalent FOV of 127.5mm
  9. I want to make the move from my full frame DSLR over to mirrorless. After being a happy owner of a RX100M3 for over a year I am convinced that Sony offers the best options for me over m4/3 and Fuji systems. However, I am stuck as to what to buy. I like my 5D mkii but it has always had focussing issues - the well documented poor system of only 9 points, most of which are single plane, leads to far too many out of focus shots leading me to have to use more depth of field than I liked. The RX100M3 with its incredible eye focus has convinced me I don't need to put up with this and that Sony has a system that works in this regard. Other issues with the DSLR are the usual complaints about the weight of the system. If I use it with the 24-105L I'm carrying around 1.5kg of camera and lens around. Just too much for only 1 lens option. It's not exactly a subtle piece of equipment either. I do like the amount of control buttons though. My preferred subject matter is landscape/travel photography (day or night) and family portraits - fidgety kids essentially. On the alpha system I am looking forward to eye focus, better all round focussing, better DR, lighter kit in general, WYSIWYG feedback from the EVF etc. At first I thought the A7II would do but I've heard it's not always the fastest to focus and its tracking ability isn't great either. It is priced well though and I've seen incredible landscape shots taken with it but not so many kid photos. Other options are then the A7RII and the A6300. A7RII is good but expensive ($4000+ in Australia). I also have little need for 42MP. The shots from it are outstanding though and I'm led to believe its tracking is pretty good although not top DSLR comparable (but then neither is the 5D mkii). I'd also find it easier to get shots with great bokeh. It also has a better albeit physically larger lens selection. The A6300 on the other hand comes in at a more palatable price point, is supposed to have excellent tracking and fast focus (great for kids), is more portable, has more compact although less extensive lens options (I'm ignoring FE lenses as you may as well have a FF body if you're going to use bigger glass anyway). My conundrum is that I like portraits with great bokeh, a more portable system would get used more often rather than sit at home like the 5D, and the RX100 doesn't focus fast enough to be a portable foil to a larger camera and isn't good enough in lower light. Options: A6300 16-50 kit, 55mm Zeiss, 16-70 Zeiss A7II, 16-35 or 24-70, 55mm Zeiss A7RII, 16-35 or 24-70, 55mm Zeiss Not everything in each option would be bought straight up and there is a fair difference in price between option 3 and other options. Has anyone made a similar move and can you recommend what would be the best way to go? There's no availability of any of the above at the moment after the Japan quake so no hurry and, unfortunately, there's nowhere here that will hire any of these models.
  10. Hi SAR forum readers, I was recently hiking in Nepal, slipped and fell and my camera fell out of my bag and tumbled down the side of the cliff. I went to look for it and then myself tumbled ~200ft. down the side of the cliff and almost died. My Sony NEX 6 survived the fall! But got beat up pretty bad, so i'm going to keep it as a back up and purchase a new camera. I was looking at the A6300 and it looks great, plus I already have a nice 50mm E mount lens, so I quite like that camera. However, i'd really like a full frame camera, so I'm curious what your suggestions would be for a comparable full frame sony camera as well as what your suggestion would be A6300 or full frame. Edit: After looking a bit more it seems like the A6300 doesn't improve too much on stills which is what i'm looking for so now i'm contemplating going after the A6000 over the A6300. To give a little context, I'm a (somewhat inexperienced) amateur photographer that travels all the time. As such I love taking pictures of the beautiful scenery. I vastly prefer taking photos of landscape compared to urban environments. I've been using an NEX 6 for the past three years and have absolutely loved it. I have the f1.8 50mm E mount lens, and but i mostly shot with the 16-50mm on the go because of the versatility but it died in the fall. I also have one other question. Can I use a FE lens on an E-mount lens? It looks like Sony is shifting focus on lens to the FE lens so I'd like to have a compatible camera. Also, what would be a good lens or two to get with the camera (both full frame and A6300)? Thanks in advance for your help. If you have any questions let me know.
  11. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1pNsjgGMGw This is my first video I have ever done and therefore also my first Youtube upload. I hope i can improve in the future and deliver better videos. Please leave some critic All i can say is that the A6300 creates some stunning video, even without using the sharpest lenses or SLOG Profiles. Love this little thing!

  16. Hopefully this will be helpful for some of you who are planning to get the Commlite Canon to Sony AF adapter for the new bodies with Phase Detection. Me and my buddies were just curious about how well some of the Canon L Prime (plus the newer 40mm STM) will perform with the adapter, and we video captured the output and slapped them into a video. Not exactly a scientific comparison but does give an idea. Lenses: Canon EF 200mm f2.8 L ii Canon EF 135mm f2 L Canon EF 100 f2.8 macro L IS Canon EF 85mm f1.2 L ii Canon EF 40mm f2.8 STM Canon EF 24mm f1.4 L ii One thing I noticed is that the newer design lenses (2009 and later) seems to perform better on camera with phase detect, whereas the older ones perform better on contrast detect. Here is a quick one of just A6300 with just 85L ii, 40STM, 24L ii Thanks for checking it y'all
  17. Hi all. I've been a forum reader for some time but this is my first post.... I've been a long time Sony mirrorless camera user. Started out with the original NEX5 then got the NEX5n, A6000, A7, A7s and now I have the A6300. I've also shot on many of the others in the range (A7s II, A7r, A7rII). I've owned an FS100, shot on FS700, FS5, F5 and even the F55. So over the years I've got used to the odd Sony quirks. I'm having an issue setting custom white balance. Here are the steps I'm taking and the results I'm getting: I'm in manual mode (as I can't set custom white balance in Movie mode, which I think is a really odd and annoying quirk... but that's a separate issue). I has have a Picture Profile enables (in this case it's the standard PP7 preset with S-Log2). I press the "Fn" button, select "White Balance" and then scroll down to "Custom Setup". I then point the camera to a grey card (I get the same result if I point the camera to a white wall) and I fill the frame with the grey card. I then press the centre button on the function wheel and the camera shutter fires. What I'm then presented with is a green image. The camera reports a "Custom WB Error" with the following values: 3700K A-B: 0 G-M: G7 If I turn Picture Profiles off and I repeat the steps above I get a correct WB reading: 6500K A-B: 0 G-M: M2 If I then go back through all the standard Picture Profiles I find that PP1-PP6 all work fine. I can get a correct WB reading. If I select PP7-PP9 I get and error. It seems that any Profile that is using an S-Log2 or S-Log3Gamma produces the error. So I testing this by changing the Gamma of PP1 to S-Log2. Repeated the steps above and I get the same error. So there appears to be a bug in the current firmware (My camera is reporting Ver. 1.00) that causes a Custom WB Error when using S-Log2 or S-Log3 Gamma. Can anyone else replicate this issue? I don't recall ever having this issue with the A7s. Thanks Adam
  18. recently upgraded from the 6000. want to delete images from memory card without formatting - because I don't want to reconfigure my memory settings every time I format the memory card. User's Guide page 184 says one option in Menu - playback - delete indicates there are 3 options: Multiple Img All with this date All in this folder Problem is I do not see the third option. Am I missing something? As background, I understand that M1- M4 are stored on the memory card but if you format your memory card it also deletes saved memory settings. Even the 6300 user's guide has a "hint" as to the best practice of formatting the memory card rather than deleting images. Thank you. Mark

  21. Hi all, here is my short test of my new A6300. Realy damn good camera !! S-LOG3 was used and color grading was done in Adobe Premiere. Lens used: Sony SEL 50mm/f1.8, Canon FD 130mm/f2.8, Sony SEL Macro 30mm/f3.5 Music: David Helpling - Into the Deep Njoy https://vimeo.com/164007644

  23. Hello! I've received this camera this morning and I took it out for testing immediately, so I want to share here some of my experience and sample photos. In general, the camera felt solid in my hand, very similar to the feeling when I use A7ii, except the dials and some buttons (quite less convenient if you're A7ii/A7Rii users). EVF is very nice as advertised. I got this camera mainly for using some APS-C lenses that I like, including the Sigma Art 18-35mm, SEL 50mm f/1.8 OSS, and maybe Sigma Art 50-100mm when I can afford it, so I tested the camera with some native lenses and Canon mount lenses: SEL 50mm f/1.8 OSS, FE 28mm f/2, Sigma Art 35mm f/1.4, Canon EF 300mm f/4 L (non IS version). I have Viltrox II, Techart III, and Yongnuo adapters and surprisingly only the Yongnuo can work with the Sigma Art and 300L, even though it only can lock the focus with 300L some times. Viltrox and Techart can work with these lenses for few seconds then they stopped responding or it's very hard to focus. Therefore, I chose to manually focus the 300L to get some bird and cat shots as below. Take a look at my samples, most of them was taken directly from the camera and slightly adjusted for the brightness. Overall I like this camera, especially the silent shutter, focus speed and the ISO quality, but I do hope that the problem with the Canon adapters are just temporary, because they work well with my A7ii. Maybe it's the problem with the firmware and Sony can fix it later. 24. Sony A7s vs A6300 quality test in 1080p recording.
  25. Hi, I'm trying to do continuous AF with Canon lenses using A6300 but I didn't success so far. I'm using Viltrox II and Yongnuo adapters for EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM and 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM. Even though for photography it's great, the AF works very well, but not with video. In video mode, they won't do AF if I don't half-press the shutter, and even when I do, it's very slow. Is this the problem of the camera or adapters? Thanks
