I am getting back into photography and have chosen to stick with sony, I have a pretty old Sony A100 alpha on the A mount, I have a couple of lenses that are all AF enabled, a small 28-70 sony kit lens and a telefoto Minolta, so my thought was to get an a6000 body, and use A to E adapter to make use of the glass. Is this advisable? Will I get clear crisp imagines in this manner, I can't imagine these lenses would be classed as "too old" or would they?

I'm trying to keep the initial cost down whilst I get back into things, after this i would be happy to spend a bit more.

Happy for any advice or correct me if my thinking is wrong. Is the A6000 a decent place to begin? I also considered the A77 mk2, which has the A mount.

To add, my style of photography is mainly just portraits, family time photography, and some outdoor street stuff from time to time.

Since that time, I have not had a lot of luck getting clear photos. I am photographing items to list online, using a tripod and a remote shutter release button. There are times when the photos are not in focus. Some of the items are bigger or wider, which could be part of the problem. I have tried to follow people's advice, but nothing has worked. I will admit that the lighting where I am photographing is not that great (we will be making changes at the warehouse sometime soon, I hope). I did purchase the A77 II used, so perhaps there is a problem with the camera itself (it had less than 15,000 shutter releases on it).

I am looking at either the A7 IV or the A7R IV (or V). Will either of these cameras help me to get clearer shots? I am hoping that with the much higher number of auto focus points, that it will work better. I rarely shoot video, so the 4K issues that I read about with the A7R IV should not be an issue for me.

I will be purchasing the adapter to run my A mount lenses on the new camera. I am also considering the HVL-F60M flash.

If anyone can give me some guidance on this, your input will be greatly appreciated. This will be a large purchase for me, so I want to get it right (if it is the right way to go).

P.S. With the money that I will spend on one of the A7 models, I might also be able to get an A99 II body. Would it be a better way to go?

High Key Bald Eagle

https://www.sonyalphaforum.com/topic/21386-high-key-bald-eagle/?do=findComment&comment=67919

Bald Eagle - Eagle processed in High Key. I have purchased a brand new A7 II and, being a novice user of interchangeable lenses, I have a couple of questions about the 28-70mm kit lens:

	- Is it safe to turn the manual focus ring while on auto focus or will it damage the lens? I have found some relevant information about this in the following links, but not specific to sony lenses: https://photo.stackexchange.com/q/39705 and https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/2304898

	- Is it normal for the lens to make a short, almost inaudible mechanical sound (like a whir) when auto-focusing? Or does it indicate there is a problem with the motor or gears?

Anyone any idea? Or did you experience this too? I think (but am not 100% sure) it happens when shooting continuously. The image quality is is very good, keeping in that a6000 line.
The video quality surpasses my a6300 The in camera picture profiles are better than my a6300 and the zv-e10 handles low light much better. the stabilization actually works maybe not as well as the gopro. I like the mic and power and video jacks
I like that there's no red light on the front of the camera when recording.

One thing i don't like is that it has no EVF. i need readers to see anything close ,, so i miss the diopter of the viewfinder.
I had to add a cage grip to hold it a bit better.
The button to switch between modes is awkward. i often get it confused with the record button.

When fully zoomed to 200mm using a macro rail bolted to the lens collar foot as a reference point I measure about 0.025 inches ( 0.6mm) with my calipers. Even fully retracted there is some play, at most half that amount. I think this is probably typical for the lens but I would appreciate hearing from other owners of the lens before I decide to keep this copy. Note that you have to look very carefully to see this movement; it is somewhat easier to see with the lens at 70mm where the front and rear barrels are adjacent.

The lens otherwise seems OK. The local photography organization can do some reasonable Modulation Transfer Function (MFT) and chromatic aberration testing using the free MFT Mapper utility. The MFT is better than my Canon 24-70mm f2.8L II and some older zooms. Not surprisingly it is not as good as a good prime such as a Canon EF 200mm f2.8L or my Canon 100mm f2.8L Macro IS that I have tested.

It also seems satisfactory on the various easy to do tests in Lensrentals How to Test a Lens.

I want to share my experience of the Meike 50mm 0.95, which I find a very unique and interesting lens. Here is my review with some samples to show its performance.

	Introduction
The Meike 50mm 0.95 is a manual lens for APS-C. It is available in different mounts (E/ X/ M43/ EFM/ Z mount). I own the sony E mount which I use on my Sony A7IV, with the crop mode.

	Construction
The construction of the lens is extremely good. It is mainly made of metal, both the body and the bayonet. The lens is very compact and solid, but lightweight for its size. It has a a non-clicking diaphragm ring located on the edge of the lens. Its focus ring is not very large, but easy and pleasant to use; The construction of the lens is, overall, excellent.

	Image quality
The image quality of the Meike 50mm 0.95 is very good. Its sweet spot is at around f2, where the sharpness in the centre of the frame is very good, and noticeable in the corners. But also at 0.95 the lens is still sharp. Actually, it is at that aperture where it shows a unique character that I will talk about later. Regarding the flares, they appear frequently in the presence of direct light sources. But they do not ruin the photos at all. In fact, we can get nice flares when shooting in the presence of the sun, so it is a very interesting feature to use on artistic shots. Chromatic aberration and distortion are present, but I do not find them a big deal, especially if we consider the price of the lens. So, overall, the image quality of the lens is very good.

	The bokeh
As said before, the 0.95 Meike’s aperture is what makes this lens unique. Wide open, and up to f2, we get an incredibly soft, creamy, special, and beautiful bokeh. So if we manage to focus the subject properly, which is challenging, we will get a very good isolation of the subject which makes the lens perfect for portraiture, product, street or even macro-kind of photography.

	Use
I would say that the Meike 50mm 0.95 has all good characteristics to be a very interesting portraiture dedicated lens. Its focal length, together with its extremely wide aperture, makes it a very interesting piece of gear for this field. Although it is challenging to focus at f0.95 manually (especially if the subject moves), it allows us to isolate subjects very well getting a special and dreamy out of focus background. At the same time, that extremely wide aperture makes the lens very good to shoot in low light conditions. All that, together with that mentioned special character that it has, makes the lens a very good option for portrait sessions and social acts as weddings, for example.

	Conclusion
The Meike 50mm 0.95 is a unique lens. It’s wide aperture, together with a special character, makes the lens a very good option for those who look for a 50mm manual portrait lens at a budget price. I personally think that is more interesting than its competitors (ex: 7artisans, TTartisan) for its superior image and built quality, character, but also for its compactness at a very similar price.

I bought it to Skymeedirect, through amazon: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0B2W2NYXW?ref=myi_title_dp
