  1. Hi all I'm curious about your experience regarding bluetooth connectivity on the Sony A7 III. The reason why I'm asking is that when I lent a Fujifilm X-T3 it would always instantly connect to my phone and start to geotag my photos. I don't think the app was running in the foreground even. But with my A7 III I need to start the app, sometime force-quit it, turn on the camera and start the app again. The sequence is very important because if I open the app before I turn on my camera it won't work. This is very annoying because I like to geo-tag my photos all the time, but this is such a hassle that I don't. I would like it to work as fluent as fujis system. I've deleted and reinstalled the app I've removed the connection between my phone and Sony A7III and reconnected I've reset the connection on my camera Phone: iPhone Xs Max and iPhone 7 Camera: Sony A7III What is your experience? Should I get my camera serviced?
  2. Sony A7iii 24-105mm F/4
  3. Ok here goes, My kit isn’t great although I’m not a professional either. Camera - A7 Lens - 55mm prime and 24-105mm G also the paper weight 28-70mm that ships with A7 bundle. The plan is to pick up a A7iii and a 100-400mm and add it to my pack. - I hate changing lens’s I’m a dust magnet. Not interested in video overly. Drone is pretty good with that I guess. Im heading away to the far reaches of North Western Australia and think that my current setup will be too short and not really keen on getting up close and personal. Questions I have are. 1. What should I buy first A7iii or 100-400mm 2. Should I ditch the A7 or leave it as redundancy/spare with the 55mm mounted semi permanently as it gives a great pic. 3. Is my lens 24-105mm a waste on the older A7 4. Is the A7iii my answer? 5. What are the cons with what I have and will there be a noticeable difference with the A7iii? Look forward to your help
  4. I just got my new Sony A7 III and am trying to learn all I can about it. I'm going to go out on a limb here and ask what may be a dumb question: There are numerous icons displayed on the LCD and in the viewfinder, some ofo which I cannot figure out their meaninig. Is there anywhere that I can find a list of all of these possible icons? Thanks in advance.
  5. Is anyone aware of a way to give the picture profiles (pp1, pp2, etc) custom names? I have spent the lst 2 weeks getting to know this camera and the customization is really amazing, but this one things seems to elude me.. With all the customization available, I'd be very surprised if they chose to leave this out. To be clear, I'd love to give PP1 a custom name of, say, "GeneralUseCine4" or "LowLight SLOG" etc.. Thanks in advanced guys. Ryan
  6. Ive spent the last 3 our on forums and YouTube trying to change my recording format on the camera so I can easily use Premier to edit. But like I said I can’t figure out how to change the file format for the SD cards to stream lone the process.
  7. Hi guys! My name is Emil and I am a 20 year old guy from Denmark who is going to spend the next 1-2 years working and travelling. I will travel to Sri Lanka and the Seychelles for a month in February with my girlfriend. I would love to bring a nice camera setup to document my trip! I am getting my hands on the Sony a7iii. From what I’ve seen on the web, it seems like a very capable camera with a very “fair” price point. But damn… what lens should i get?!?! My prior experience might be very limited compared to many on this forum, however I will try to describe myself as a “photographer” if I am even allowed to call myself that ;) I have previously shot a decent amount of drone footage and played around with a borrowed entry level Nikon d5200 paired with a Sigma dc 17-50mm 2.8 ex hsm lens. (Which would be equivelent to something like a 28-75 on a FF) My current kit consists of a: DJI Mavic Air - which I use for aerial landscapes. GoPro Hero 6 - which I use for action watersports and other typical GoPro stuff. I love taking both photos and video! I think photography will take up most of my time - at least in the beginning. I am currently editing on a Mid 2014 MacBook Pro (2,6 GHz i5, Intel Iris Graphics, 8GB)… I can only imagine how it will handle 4k and higher frame rates… I see myself primarily taking photos/video for my personal social media, however I occasionally do semi-professional jobs for companys or product-related projects. I would love to provide content for my girlfriends instagram aswell. She generally post travel related content and mainly urban “environmental” fashion portraits. I thinking full/upper-body portraits with some nice bokeh/background seperation capabilities. I like to show the location/landscape behind the subject/model. So I do not wish to completely conceal the location. I like to take photos in the same style, but maybe with more epic “wide” landscapes… So to sum it up… I would love to be able to take: Urban/environmental full-body portraits, with a nice (decent) amount of bokeh/backround seperation. Wide epic landscapes (I have previously worked with stitching photos together for wide perspectives) And other travel/urban/street related stuff. + have nice video capabilities and low light performance. I have found some photos, which I really like. I would be more than happy if I could get the somewhat the same look (editing aside) https://www.instagram.com/p/BozIkx5HPP8/ https://www.instagram.com/p/BnOXurPnSuu/ https://www.instagram.com/p/Bm8yuU_nSm3/ https://www.instagram.com/p/BpCajIUF-k1/ https://www.instagram.com/p/Bpjh0Lslswp/ https://www.instagram.com/p/Boc2ZNVhkd6/ Credit to all the creator - check em' out! I have considered following lenses: Zooms: Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 GM Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 GM (or f/4) Primes: Sony FE 35mm f/1.4 Sony FE 50mm f/1.8 Sony 85mm f/1.8 Which ones would you go with? I maybe thought 24-70mm f/2.8 + 35mm f/1.4 would be a very nice setup. I just don’t know if 24mm would be wide enough… hmm.. I think the 35mm has a little more interesting FOV than the 50mm, while it might be “worse” a worse portrait lens when taking distortion into mind. Maybe pair the 35mm with a 85mm in the future and skip the “inbetweener” 50mm Any thoughts? Is there any budget solutions without big sacrifices? I know lenses should match the cameras potential.. but wow those GMs are expensive... what about other brands like Tamrons 28-75 f/2.8? Samyang 35mm f/1.4? And at last - what are your experiences regarding Black Friday/ Christmas deals on cameras/lenses? Would love to know if I could save some money by waiting a little! I would love to hear your thoughts! I hope you haven’t heard these types of questions too often (which you properly have). Anyway… sorry for any spelling/grammar mistakes - I hope it makes sense! - Emil S.
  8. Hello All I just joined the forum at this point more for information as I am close to making a switch from Nikon to Sony primarily for the mirrorless options. Yes I understand Nikon has announced their Z series mirrorless but as a hobbyist there are some things i like about Sony rather than Nikon, however, there are still several items with Sony that I am concerned with and looking for feedback. Does Lightroom convert the Sony uncompressed file to a dng format without issues or loss of quality? The biggest concern is the RAW uncompressed file size. Nikon offers and I shoot 14 bit lossless compressed in Nikon. I later convert the .nef format to dng in Lightroom. Sony does not offer Lossless compressed option so the files for a 24 mb photo will be about 2x the size. So my workflow is to convert the Sony RAW format to dng after importing to Lightroom. Will Lightroom convert the Sony RAW format to dng? Is there any degradation to the file quality in doing so? Also if convert what is the file size of the dng? I have not seen a change in the file size in .nef files converted to .dng. Any rumors, road maps or comments from Sony on firmware/software upgrades for additional functionality such as lossless compression, time-lapse video or other items. From what I have read Sony discontinued an app store that a number of these functionalities were available for purchase. Or I have I understood incorrectly and the app store is still available to purchase additional functionality? Durability in weather - how does this camera stand up to light rainfall? I do not make a habit of shooting in the rain with my Nikon D750. However, I do travel and take it with me. I don't always have the luxury of coming back some place at a later time. So I have used the camera in very (very) light rain. I have heard stories of the Sony A7III failing in even the slightest rain. Not sure if those are one off/infrequent occurrences. Finally any issues with dust or dirt on the sensor from changing lenses due to the fact the sensor is uncovered for a short period of time? I do clean the Nikon sensor myself but doesn't require it frequently. Thanks all appreciate any feedback Jim
  9. Hi, this is my first post on this forum and English isnt my first language so please be gentle I made the switch from Nikon to Sony. One of the key features that attracted me towards Sony was the EVF and the resulting "What you see is what you get" in the live view. My gear: A7iii + Godox V860ii S or Xpro S both as masters. (Several GM and G lenses) My problem: As soon as I attach and turn on my flash unit or trigger, the camera overrides the "setting effects ON". That means I no longer get a real representation of the ambient exposure but a "simulated" exposure in the viewfinder. I get that they do that in order to be able to still see something when using strobes in very dark environments, but I am wedding photographer and mostly use my Flash as a fill or for creative effects. I would love to still be able to see just the ambient exposure so that I can expose for that and add the fill flash. I`ve read on several sites that to overcome that "problem" some people use the Shot Result Preview mapped to a custom button. That would be a nice workaround but in my case IN DOESNT WORK. All it changes is a tiny bit of exposure if I really increase F-stop numbers. But when I compare the resulting exposure using this function to the exposure resulting in turning the flash off (or with the picture taken), it doesnt match at all. Also, Shutterspeed and ISO changes dont influence the exposure using Shot Result Preview. My question: Does anyone experience the same problem with their A7iii? Is there a setting I have missed which interferes maybe? Is there a known issue or bug with the A7iii?
  10. Hi all, I just moved from canon to Sony and my wide-angle lens Sigma 12-24 DG (not ART) is not recognized anymore from mc-11 (F - -) mounted on Sony A7iii. Could you please suggest me another wide lens with the same range at very cheap price? Or if you have any suggestions how is possible to made to work my Sigma

  14. Went out and shot with my new a7iii and 85mm 1.8. Such an amazing combo! What picture profile does everyone shoot with?
  15. I'm a photographer but this camera is no joke for video. It's not perfect and has a few issues but for the money I feel I couldn't have done any better. Every shot is the a7iii with either the 35 1.4 of the 85 1.8. On 3 shots I used the Mavic Air.
  16. Hello! I recently bought an A7III and shoot some footage with it but I can't seem to find the location of it on my computer. Where do I go to find the footage? Also, I can't preview the raw images I've captured. If I want to see the images, I have to open Lightroom. However, I seem to be having no trouble at all with my a6000. Any help will be appreciated!
  17. Hello there, I'm currently using the Sony A7III with Samyang AF 14mm f/2.8 FE. It might be a stupid question for you but whenever I am taking video with 'Face Detection in AF' on (AF-C mode, video format: 1080p, 50 fps), the face always has a grey frame on it. But it does not focus to it, I tried so many times but still did not make it happen. I tried focusing on other things, then moved to the face. The frame happened to appear again, but the focus point did not change a bit. I had to press the shutter to make it focus. Is it because of the non-native lens, or is it a problem of my A7III??? Thank you for your kind reply.
  18. Once I get my hands on an A7iii I’m going to start buying lenses (kit 24-70mm, 85mm 1.8) and I’m considering buying something for sports and wildlife photography. I’ve been doing research and I’ve narrowed it down to these two lenses, I like the Tamron because it’s preserves the full frame capability. I’m concerned about sharpness though and I don’t mind shooting in APS - C mode to get the clarity out of the sigma. I would love to hear your opinions on the topic.
  19. I would like to be able to set one of the custom buttons to toggle between for instance AF wide and Flexible spot L. Can this be accomplished by pressing the button once for wide and then press again for flexible spot? Thanks,
  20. Hi all, my first post so be gentle! After a few weeks consideration I have took the plunge and am moving over from Nikon to Sony. I have preordered the A7iii from Jessops in the U.K. for delivery week commencing 9th April, and already bought a 70-200 f/2.8 GM lens ready to go. I read yesterday that the A7iii does not come supplied with a battery charger but I have seen several videos where there are electric cables in the box? So my question is simple - does the UK version of the A7iii come with a battery charger supplied, or is that something else I have to purchase? If it doesn’t, I presume it’s a question of charging it through the USB port? If I have to buy one, are there any alternative makes or does it have to be a Sony? Thanks in advance
  21. can I use a MacBook Pro charger to charge an a7iii over usb-c?
  22. Hi guys and gals. I'm new to this forum and hope to spend a lot of time here learning and contributing. I need some advice. I currently have the A7RIII. I mostly shoots seascape/landscape but also urban and I rarely print. If I do its "normal" size prints nothing big. Now the A7III has been announced with 15 stops dynamic range. I'm on the fence on selling my A7RIII and buying the A7III. Hereby I can invest in better/more glass. Heres my question: Is the benefit of a lot of megapixels only in regards to prints (especially if the dynamic range is the same on both cameras) or are there benefits I've missed? Hope to get your 2 cents. Best. Martin.
  23. In need of some advice. I currently own an a6000 with a speedbooster that allows me to use Canon EF on my Sony. I currently use a canon 35 f2 and the 50 f1.8. I’m in college and work part time but want to start shooting senior portraits, events, and selling prints to make a few bucks here and there. But I mostly post to Instagram right now. I have no problem shooting in full manual mode with manual focus lenses on my a6000. But with the announcement of the new A7 III I’m wondering if it’s worth it for me to invest in a serious performing full frame body. I’ve always wanted the A7R2. But I’ve heard the a7 III is extremely good. The only thing that’s holding me back is the price for Sony glass. I have roughly $2500 to spend on a new body and glass at the moment. Not really much more than that. I guess I’m asking will it make a massive difference on the quality of my images if I invest in the a7 III with a kit lens? Or should I wait and save up until I can afford a nice lens like a GM series. I need advice on where to go from here before I buy another used canon lens and adapt it to my a6000. Thanks
  24. Was looking to get the A7ii then noticed the price drop and talk of A7iii on the horizon. Smart to wait?
