  1. So I've had my A7s since October of 2015. I was shooting in an extremely humid climate about a month ago (June 2016) and the camera's off/on switch quit working. Now, no matter what position it is in, the camera will remain on. As you all know, battery life isn't great with these cameras so this is kind of a problem. I've tried getting around it by setting the auto off/power saving settings to turn the camera off after 10 seconds, but this has just become an inconvenience, seeing as how now a slight bump of my camera bag could turn on my camera. I also own an A7ii and I've had that for close to 2 years now without any variation of this issue. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!
  2. Hey all, I own the Sony A7Sii, and I'm on the most up to date firmware (v2). The timelapse app is on v3.11. Whenever I try to shoot time lapse via the app, it will only shoot in jpeg no matter what I try. This is what I've tried: 1. Internal is set to shoot raw only, no jpeg, app set to either still or stills and video, but will only save jpeg. 2. The same as above with raw + jpeg. 3. Tried on shutter, aperture priority and manual; no ability to change. I've looked at old videos of the app on a7s and in the app, submenu 2, you could set to raw. In mine you can only set to large, medium, small jpeg. Help?
  3. Hi there, I wanted to share the latest short clip I made from a trip last year to Tiger Beach in the Bahamas. Do turn up the volume for full effect Gear used was a Sony A7s with the Sony 28mm FE combined with Nauticam's WWL-01 wet lens (which gives a 140 degree FOV with little distortion and extreme close focusing) Video was recorded onto an Atomos Shogun in 4k UHD 29.97 in ProRes HQ. All the equipment including the Shogun are housed in Nauticam dive housings. No video lighting was used, only ambient light. Aerials were shot with a Dji Phantom 3 Pro The video has been cropped to simulate a 2.39:1 Anamorphic modern cinema format and rendered in 1080p Sharks are simply not the ferocious man-eaters that movies and the media make them out to be. They are majestic, graceful, beautiful creatures with character. I hope this video will help educate both divers and non divers alike.
  4. Hi, I have picked up an OP/TECH Utility Strap Sling for my camera and would like to use it with my A7s. I would like to know if it is safe to have the camera hanging off a single eyelet? Specifically in my case the one on the right hand side? I would rather have two points of contact, but it isn't really practical as the strap gets in the way. To give you an idea of the weight I have a Canon 24-105mm f/4 attached via a Metabones adapter most of the time, however sometimes I would use a Canon 70-200mm f/4. I have a Manfrotto 501PL tripod plate attached to the camera at all times and therefore can't add another loop on via the tripod thread. Thanks in advance for the advice with this!
  5. Hi All Anyone out there tried the A7S with the Sound Devices PIX-E5H. About to start a project with this combo would love to hear other user experiences.
  6. Sony A7s vs A6300 quality test in 1080p recording.
  7. Having some issues while shooting video with my A7s, which I've only had for about 4 months or so. There are these downward moving color shifts that go from warm to cool that show up in every clip. They are much more noticeable against whites, and a little hidden against blacks but definitely still there. The lenses I'm using are a Sony 28mm f/2 lens, and a Vizelex ND throttle adapter with a Nikkor 50mm f/1.2 and 105 f/1.8. The issue happens with any of these 3 lenses so I'm pretty sure it's not the adapter or Nikkor lenses causing the issue. Video settings are MP4 and 1440x1080 12M. Any insight as to why this might be happening and how it could be fixed are greatly appreciated.
  8. I've been using the MF Assist on the A7S in the video recording mode, but I did something and now I can't get it to work again. Even when it's selected in the menu, the MF assist will not zoom in when I start to refocus, despite having done this before. All I want to to have the picture zoom in when I start to refocus. It is working in all other modes, just not video. I'm using a canon lens with a metabones E-EF adapter. Thanks!
  9. My recently bought A7sii has worked fine up until recently when it stopped allowing me to control aperture. Bottom the screen now just reads f- I use a commlite with Canon range lenses. Since then, I have tested with another new commlite adaptor and still doesn't work. But did work when testing with metabones and native Sony lens This leads me to be very confused! Any ideas??
  10. When I take photos with both my old A7s, and my A7sii Adobe does this auto grading to the images after importing them into Lightroom (also into Photoshop). Normally the images are crushed by 1-2 stops, and contrast and saturation is added, ext. Settings: Raw, Large Files, 3:2 SLog-3 (but have tired different Picture Profiles on my A7s and still did the samething) I had an issue with it auto cropping the images, but switched it from 16:9, to 3:2 in camera and it was fixed. I'm hopping its some setting I'm over looking. Anyone know why it does this, and know how to turn it off? I feel like I'm spending time trying to get back-ish to neutral instead of just editing the image. Thanks!

  12. Hello, Yesterday my A7s- Camera went black, no buttons worked. I tried all the buttons and nothing would response. I then took out the battery and then put it back in and it worked fine. This just happened to me after changing lenses too. Not sure if this is what caused it. This has happened 2 times now. I know I am due for a firmware upgrade, I will try that next to see if the problem happens again. Has anyone else had this problem? I hope my camera is not breaking down. Thanks!
  13. Trying to shoot slog2 at 3200 in bright light is not working well. Looking into ND filters to use. I am shooting with a 55mm 1.8 Zeiss Anyone have any of their favorites? Right now I am looking at http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1012379-REG/hoya_xpd_49nd1000_49mm_pro_nd_1000x.html hoya_xpd_49nd1000_49mm_pro_nd_1000x is ND 1000 too strong? Thanks!
  14. Hi there! I thought, I'd share some of my newer landscape-pictures I shot with my almost one year old A7s. I switched from a Canon 5Diii to the Sony A7s, regularly using my old Canon lenses and some newer Sonys. One of the first pictures I took with my new camera. It's Austria's Hallstatt Village. Also, since I own the A7s, I really got into night-photography. Here's Europes "highest" church at the top of the Dobratsch-Mountain in Carinthia, Austria, and some other random shot at the Sommeralm in Styria. I'll add more from time to time
  15. Rough test comparing a Vizelex ND with a B+W filter https://youtu.be/vSMdae6EDa8 I forgot to mention that the sharpness of the Vizelex ND was really soft in comparison I'll have to do some more tests but so far I am totally not happy with this adapter
  16. I've had my Sony A7s for a year now and within the week of getting it noticed that I had a hot pink dead pixel smack dab in the middle of my sensor..I noticed this while reviewing footage after a long day shooting a short... I was pretty upset but mostly just because my brand new camera had a dead pixel on literally the first thing I used it on After doing some digging I found that the camera doesn't have a setting to fix this like other cameras but you can force the camera to remap the sensor which will remove the dead pixel I made a quick video showing how to do so: https://youtu.be/LP1M7vZRwb0 I've known about this for a year now but just never got around to making a tutorial I've had atleast a dozen hot pixels so recommend doing this every time you are about to use the camera for a shoot Hope this helps someone
  17. Just thought I would share my most recent blog post about of a wedding photographed with the Sony A7 series cameras http://www.lisabeaneyphotography.co.uk/2015/08/upwaltham-barns-wedding-niki-tom/ If you want to see a bit more and how I've been getting on with them use the search facility for Sony or look at the A7s A7ii categories. I will say that I have moved from the Canon 5dmk3 and now use the Sony cameras exclusively for my wedding and studio work.
  18. Heya Sony Alpha Forums Im a long time reader and first time poster. I thought i'd share a photo im particularly happy with, which i took on the A7s. I usually shoot stills on a Canon 5Dmk3 but after seeing what kind of detail the A7s retains im now thinking that.... canon are actually quite rubbish. I do photography for a group called Arcadia Spectacular, who make stages, sculptures, vehicles and allsorts out of recycled military hardware. The main stage they have is a giant spider that shoots fire 70ft or so up into the air, it's a real pleasure to take pictures of. It's quite easy to get a shot with the fire exposing the crowd but almost impossible to get the crowd and fire exposed at the same time as the fire is so, so bright but the crowd is so dark. I have tried so many different techniques to try get both but more often than not it either doesn't work or it's a photoshop job or the noise in the blacks is just so bad it's unbelievable. However, after playing with a few RAW stills from the A7s i quickly realised that the detail in the shadows was...so good, that i could actually underexpose my image but 2/3 stops...and still bring the whole thing back with no noise. Coming from Canon this made my jaw hit the floor, as lifting the blacks even in a bit on a CR2 image immediately brings up noise even at the lowest ISOs. So what the sony could deliver for me was in the realms of impossibility. So here is the image that the A7s manage to capture that the 5DMK3 could only dream of getting. The only thing i have done to this is lift the blacks and lower the highlight a smidge. Im actually thinking of selling my 5DMK3 for the A7r2 if it holds up to the hype and can use canon lenses with good AF, I might even try get one to test for their next event to see what it can do. I also have a load taken with the sun facing at camera and the stage totally silhouetted out and you can still bring all the detail and colour back with little to no noise, ill post some comparisons later today I cannot put into enough words how impressed i am with this camera and from what Sony are delivering recently. I hope you like the photo If you want to see more of this kind of thing i have a load here, (They are a mix of A7s and 5DMK3) - https://www.flickr.com/photos/61757323@N04/sets/72157655440739261 Cheers for looking Ben
  19. Hello all, I feel I remember reading somewhere that older APS-C E mount lenses had software compatibility issues with the A7S. Does anyone know if there is any truth to that? Cheers, T

  21. We shot this commercial for the "Stuttgarter Wohnungsbaugenossenschaften" completely on an A7s with an Atomos Shogun recorder. Various Canon-mount Lenses were used over a Metabones-Adapter. Our source material was 4K, 24p, but we did the editing offline (1080p) on an Avid media composer. We shot a little over 500 GB. For onlining and grading we went on to a baselight system. After the color correction, we put out the final dcp in 2K flat. The shooting took place in Munich in early April during two exiting days. In the first scene our location was the infamous "Schwabinger Sieben". To keep the original mood of that "cave", we used nearly no lights but candles. The A7s did a fantastic job at ISO 12800. The Youtube-file doesn´t quite represent the information that is in there (in the shadows), but the dcp for cinema sure does. The Senior Colorist at Das Werk in Munich was really impressed with the low-light capabilities of the A7s. Filming with a small and light camera like this added also great flexibility and speed to the production. We actually used a very simple slider for the dolly shots. Hope you enjoy our little thriller, which stresses a problem for German tenants: The fact that the landlord can arbitrarily claim his property for personal needs - even if you just made your home sweeter
  22. Demo video shot by me with the Nauticam a7S housing and an a7S, Metabones diopter was used with a Canon 100mm f2.8 IS L lens.
  23. I'm looking at buying the A7s because of the low light + 4K video possibilities. I do a lot of inside filming and I'm over using artificial light for simple tasks. Also to have the ability to get photos of my daughter in low light rooms will be amazing! Basically here in Australia its going to cost $5.5k for the A7s + Atomos Shogun. I love what the shogun can do and cant wait to use it. My biggest problem is I dont know what to do with my Nikon D610 and 6 quality lenses (24-70mm 2.8G, 70-200mm 2.8G, 105mm Micro etc). I dont want to sell them because they are fairly new and take amazing pictures. Maybe I can sell them all and buy everything back in Canon second hand and not loose too much? I believe Canon has more potential to get 4K right in the future than Nikon with their DSLR cameras. I would hate to buy a kit of E-Mount lenses and then down the track Sony make a future camera and the lenses are incompatible down the track. You know they love to do it! Also I am a little spooked by the electronic focus and zoom on the Sony lenses. I guess I will see how they handle today when I try them in store. I'm also looking at buying a Kessler Second shooter setup with a wireless focus puller. So I will need lenses to accommodate operating them. I also will need to buy a good auto focusing Sony lens for simple at times video? Any help would be great thanks.
