  1. Has anyone else had this issue? I received a Sony a7s as a gift last month, with a Commlite adapter, Canon 50mm F1.8 lens, and a Tamron 28-75mm F2.6 lens. I was happily using the camera with the Tamron lens, turned it off, and then one hour later decided to take another photo but the camera wouldn't turn on. Weird, I thought, maybe the battery has somehow died even though it was at 75% last I checked. I went home and put in a fully charged battery. Nothing. Long story short, it seems that if you mount the adapter and lens onto any other Sony a7s, that camera won't turn on either. It'll be totally dead. You have to take out the battery and put it into the recharger. The battery will initially register as empty but then after a moment, it will suddenly remember that it's charged. Then if you take the adapter (and lens) off the camera and put the (re-charged) battery back in, the camera turns on like nothing happened. But it won't work with the adapter & lens on it. The camera shop concluded that the adapter must be at fault. I don't think it's the Tamron lens, since the same issue exists with the Canon lens too. I've googled all around the net and haven't found any other discussions on the topic of an adapter somehow shorting out the battery. Is this a weird fluke case? I know it's a cheap adapter. I'm wondering if I should bother trying to get it repaired or whether I should buy another kind of adapter (Fotodiox?). I wish I could buy a native Sony lens, but that's out of my budget at the moment....
  2. I have just received my Sony a6300 in the post. I have swapped over from a Canon 700d so I have all canon lens'. I decided to buy a commlite EF to NEX(E) adapter to fit all of my current lens' on the Sony a6300. First I tried my Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art lens' which refuses to focus, on startup the focus motor runs from macro all the way to infinity then refuses to focus at all on half shutter. I have changed between phase detection and contrast detection, then between wide and center focus zones, still nothing. Some of the focus modes are even grayed out like DMF and Auto because the lens is not compatible however I have seen this lens working with the same adapter with other Sony a6300 cameras. I have also updated the firmware which made 0 difference. Next I tried my Canon 50mm f/1.8 STM which refused to focus using phase detection and kept jumping about, but worked much like the Canon 700d in live view when using contrast detection. It focused very slowly but worked nonetheless. The same was true with the Canon 18-55mm STM IS kit lens. I did purchase this adapter through Amazon warehouse deals but there was no mention of focus issues only minor cosmetic defects, but the adapter was flawless when I received it. I cannot see this being an issue as it allows the aperture to be changed and it focuses on some lens' but I just cannot understand why it will not work on the Sigma lens when I have seen it working perfectly on other Sony a6300 with the same adapter. Am I doing anything wrong? Is there anything to help this or am I just stuck to manual focus with this adapter?
  3. The new Techart adapter (M mount to E-mount) enables AF with Leitz lenses that do not have a built in focusing motor. The motor is in the adapter. As present adapters for e.g. Canon lenses do not allow AF with ALL lenses but only with a few newer ones, it may be a good idea to have the motor in the adapter instead of relying on the motor in the lens. Such an adapter would be a rather complex affair as the diaphragm would still have to be set by the camera body through the electrical contacts on the camera body and lens. But the system would not have to rely on a possibly not working focusing motor in the lens as that would be done by the adapter. Hopefully Techart, Metabones or whoever will take up this idea and construct an adapter which allows AF with all Canon/Nikon etc. lenses.
  4. I think I just bricked my son's Canon lens! Today he bought a used Canon EF-S 10-18 STM for his Canon T4i, and it was working perfectly. I thought I'd compare its IQ to my EF-S 10-22 which I was using on my a6500 via Commlite adapter. (Terrible blurring in the corners, don't even try it on mirrorless — no such blurring on the Canon SLR.) So I put the 10-18 on my a6500, and it wouldn't even recognize the lens. F stop was reported as 00, and no autofocus. No manual focus either, because this lens is focus by wire. So I thought no biggie, and put it back on his T4i. But now it won't work on the Canon either — F 00, no focus, no red focus points, and when I try to click the shutter I get an error 01, communication error with lens. I tried all the tricks. Clean contacts, remove battery, re-mount lens, no joy. So I think this lens is ruined. Anyone else experience this? Is there a fix for it, or do I have to give him my 10-22 in compensation? Whelp, that's enough third party lenses for me.
  5. My recently bought A7sii has worked fine up until recently when it stopped allowing me to control aperture. Bottom the screen now just reads f- I use a commlite with Canon range lenses. Since then, I have tested with another new commlite adaptor and still doesn't work. But did work when testing with metabones and native Sony lens This leads me to be very confused! Any ideas??
  6. Hi! Maybe you can find interesting an autofocus test I've done with Commlite and Fotodiox Pro adapters and Eos lens on the A7RII. Finally I can say that the Fotodiox works good only with a restrict number of lenses.. but (when it works) it works great! I've tried it with: Canon 50 f1,4 - C 100 f2 - C 24-70 f2,8L - C 50 f2,5 macro - C 90 f2,8 T/S (manual) - Sigma 35 f1,4 Art.. It works bad with all the lenses except for the 24-70 f2,8L. For "bad" i mean not only for the autofocus function but also for the aperture controls and the stability of the Camera. With the Canon 24-70 f2,8L, instead, it is impressive!... it is as fast as working on Eos body (only with some rare fails), and very reliable. Also it doesn't work with the A6000. The Commlite is like a workhorse.. it works good with all the lenses and with the A6000; but it is not so fast like the Fotodiox and not so accurate. Here you can find the video tests: https://vimeo.com/135973751 (Fotodiox and Canon 24-70 f2,8L) https://vimeo.com/135978162 (Fotodiox and Sigma 35 1,4 Art) https://vimeo.com/135981179 (Commlite and both Canon 24-70 f2,8L and Sigma 35 1,4 Art) And here the Review (italian language): http://pdrphotoblog.com/2015/08/11/sony-a7rii-adattatori-autofocus-commlite-e-fotodiox-in-prova/ Hi and have fun with the A7RII!
