Adapting Lenses

  1. I've bought a chipped adaptor in the hope of using M42 lenses on my Sony Alpha 230 with focus confirmation. This has worked with my Canon EOS 400D but that doesn't have an in-camera AF drive. However, I'm finding that the Sony's in-camera AF drive behaves as if an AF lens is attached by audibly running and there is no focus confirmation. Is there any way I can stop the drive running and have focus confirmation?

We have all seen the price of tilt shift lenses, for the amount of use they will get is it worth the expense? Not in my book. Then I came across a video of a cheap alternative hand adapted by a person from Ukraine who sells on ebay under the name of budmo! , He takes old soviet lenses such as Helios, refurbishes them, attaches a rubber tube and the mount for whichever camera you have and ships them to you within a week. My version uses the Industar-61 52mm on a Sony e mount. There is no focus helicoil, to focus you move the lens in and out, and by tilting up, down, left and right the field of focus changes., no two shots are the same. I enjoy using this lens …

  3. I've bought this lens a few years ago when I was on Fuji X system a while back. It's a gift for myself and I never wanted to sell it. I also did not like it that much on APS-C, 50mm on APSC is a bit too tight for my liking, but I kept it. Don't ask me why, I just did it. A month ago I ought myself a 3D-printer. I printed all the stuff that I could for helping me in my life and search for camera stuff on Printables and seesng a Sony E mount model I remembered that I have the Fuji X lens. I thought maybe I can somehow design a mount to hold my lens based on that Sony E mount and I did it! You can see the mount in different design stages and the final version. I de…

  4. I think I know the answer but is there any way to remotely release the shutter on a Sony Alpha NEX-F3 camera? Not mentioned in the manual! I have bought a secondhand one to go on the back of a telescope as it had a tilt screen. I never thought about remote release!! As it is, due to magnification of the telescope, using the button on the camera to release shutter causes considerable vibration of the image!! Sounds like a mechanical shutter! Very happy to re wire one of the (USB) or HDMI terminal (50). Cheers

  5. http:// And http:// Bought this lens , brand new, out of the shop, years ago, in Osnabrük Germany. Initially it was on a minolta XE 1, but that died in the 1980s Apparently the Minolta XE 1 was the worst ever, camera, to repair ?? So I was told, Anyway the lens is still going strong & I recently had it refurbished for £ 200. Anyone interested ? Make me an offer ! Remember ! This is a Rare Lens ! Only made for a year or so, but the replacement was never as sharp or as good in low light !

  6. Hi all! Did try searching but couldn't find much that specifically discussed this as a subject, so sorry if I'm duplicating a thread. I have an A850 and would like to use M42 lenses (specifically Helios 44 series lenses, as I have several) but am unsure about the flange distance being safe with an adaptor. I really don't want to damage the mirror on my body, so I'm wondering if anyone can suggest an adaptor that will work, or if anyones had any experience with this? Tons of information out there about E mount of course but nothing on A mount!

  7. I recently purchased a 7CR with a Canon 8-15 and a Metabones V adaptor from B&H. When attaching the metabones to the camera body, it apparently broke off one of the lens contact pins that is used for the Sony APS-C lenses. As I started digging into it deeper, I've found several reports by others who broke the camera with the Metabones. Luckily, B&H replaced the camera, and credited the adaptor. I'm considering the Sigma MC-11 which doesn't seem to have any reports of breaking cameras, but the Metabones seems like it might have better functionality, since it is specifically built for canon lens Has anyone on here seen this issue with…

  8. Yup, I've done it. Although I have several adapters to put NON a-mount lenses on my Maxxum & Sony a-mount cameras, I recently discovered CHIPPED adapters. This allows me to put NON a-mount lenses on my Maxxum & Sony a-mount cameras as before, but NOW I get the FOCUS confirmation signal in the viewfinder while manually focusing. Even though it's not essential, it sure is a nice feature to have -- and it really doesn't cost that much more. I've now got CHIPPED adapters for all my T-mount lenses, M42 lenses, and Minolta Rokkor lenses (with & without corrective glass). I got my adapters from PIXCO -- although others might make these chipped adapt…

I've read at a number of places that Rangefinder lenses tend to be sharper than conventional SLR type lenses because of their design being closer to the film plane. Do we think this is true? what experience have people had with adapting these lenses to mirrorless bodies? I'm thinking of buying an adapter to try out an old Braun Paxette 35mm lens ...

  10. I'm just genuinely curious; one of the significant reasons I invested in a Sony full frame camera when I already have a large collection of other makes was the ease with which it handles legacy glass. There seem to be far more adaptors around for the Sony e-mount and if the absolute plethora of media output from magazines to YouTube is anything to go by, everyone and their mother is experimenting with this stuff. Is it just that people on this site don't do this stuff or just don't bother to report their activities, and is anyone interested?? Asking for a friend...😂

  11. I recently purchased a Sony A7 IV and would like to order a teleconverter with my Sony Fe 70-200mm F4 Macro G OSS II. Are the 1.4 and 2.0 teleconverters compatible with the A7 IV? Thanks for any help you can provide.

  12. I've just realised my previous thread about connecting multiple adaptors should have been in this section so I apologise for that! But I do have a question about Nikon to NEX adaptors, and specifically whether anyone knows if they can cope with pre-AI lenses? I have a number of very decent old Nikon lenses that I would love to put on front of my a7ii, including the 20 mm UD 3.5 and a pre-AI version of the Afghan Girl lens...I've used them on a D5300 but if course there's the crop issue, and my D750 won't take them. I'd happily convert them as I'm no purist, but in France where I live there is nobody doing AI conversions and although I would usually have a…

Hi all, first time poster. I am getting back into photography and have chosen to stick with sony, I have a pretty old Sony A100 alpha on the A mount, I have a couple of lenses that are all AF enabled, a small 28-70 sony kit lens and a telefoto Minolta, so my thought was to get an a6000 body, and use A to E adapter to make use of the glass. Is this advisable? Will I get clear crisp imagines in this manner, I can't imagine these lenses would be classed as "too old" or would they? I'm trying to keep the initial cost down whilst I get back into things, after this i would be happy to spend a bit more. Happy for any advice or correct me if my thinking is wrong…

  14. I shoot nikon. Go to lenses are 200-500 and 28-300 on a Nikon D500. My back up D500 died and I have the opportunity to purchase a used Sony A1. Has anyone used Nikon lenses on the A1 and is it a successful match? TIA!!

  15. I've recently started using my old Vivitar 75-210mm lens (from my old Olympus SLR) on my A7Rii - using the appropriate adapter. The images of relatively close subjects are lovely, and the Bokeh very creamy. However, I cannot get long distant subjects in focus - is this usual when using adapters?

Hello there, A couple of years ago I bought an A7r2 at a very reasonable price and an adaptor. My old film camera is a Pentax S1a hence the 55mm in the title. This is one of the first pics I got right. The plantation off the trail, the area used to be railway sidings not so many years ago. Cheers - J

Good morning, everyone. First time on here and also first question. If it doesn't belong on here, please delete. So, my question is I have a Sony a7r iv that I recently bought. one of my nephews gave me a Tamron 150-600mm G2 Lense. the port is just a tad big, so I was wondering if there's any adaptors for this combo? thanks in advance.

  18. I was recently given one of those “legendary” Canon EF 50mm/f1.0 lenses and attempted to use it with my trusty a7m2, using a 7artisans adapter that is working very well with other lenses. The issue here is that I cannot set the aperture below 3.5. Neither manual nor automatic settings will allow me to set it to f/1.0. Is this issue due to the 7artisans adapter? Is it possible to reach 1.0 with other alternative adapters? Please help.

  19. I had completely forgotten that I once bought a thin μ43 to E adapter for an aps/c designed lens in that mount. I tried a Nex-c3 or somesuch a few years back, but it wasn't quite what i had hoped. The oddball adapter popped up from a box just after I had added a few more similar primes for my eM1. Suddenly I have a new kit! 🤩 + A6000 (coming soon!) + μ43 lenses at 10/17/23/35mm + Pentax 70/85/135mm At 50mm I have two Pentax (1.4 and 2.0), a Zonlai μ43 f1.4 and an E-native 50/2.. oops also a Takumar 55/1.8! And no doubt I'll add an oss zoom or maybe two.. after all the 6-series bodies do AF pretty well I'm told. 😃

  20. Does such a beast exist? I mostly have legacy PK mount lenses for which there are lots of adapters available (and have) but I do have a few modern PK AF lenses without aperture rings that I would like to try with the A7II. Any links or pictures of the adapter would be much appreciated. Thanks,

  21. I've got a Tamron SP 150-600 mm f/5.0-6.3 Di USD G2 Sony Lens (Sony A fullframe) with a Sony LA-EA4 Alpha Lens Mount adapter. It fits on my Sony A7RV, manual focus without problem, but the autofocus is not working in this setup. Is that correct or am I missing something here? Thank you!

  22. Hi I wonder if anyone knows where I could get a lens adapter for my Sony SLT A58 to my lens sigma DG photos attached 1 pin on lens and 2 pins on camera mount. Sorry can’t attach files Many thanks Heritage Girl

  23. This thread is one started to discuss possible firmware updates and DIY firmware dumping and modifications, like the LA-EA4r mod for the LA-EA5, and curret market offerings of adapters of mechnical and electronic glass. The Sony LA-EA5 is a LA-EA3 without the tripod coller in profile, and the issue of DMF de-activating on each shot causing a delay being removed, providing in additon a servo powered screwdriver for mechnical drive glass effectivly replacing the LA-EA4 for photo autofocus aswell. What this adapter is not is an Sigma MC-11, now as of 2023 it has 3 major short commings, The adapter is not universally supported up/down the NEX/A6000/A7/A9 lineup.…

Hello, Looking fot an old budget superzoom, does the Tamron 28-200 / 3.8-5.6 work with my A7 ? If not, any alternatives ? Sony 24-240 and the new Tamron 28 -200 are too expensive for me. I only work with M39 and M42 lenses, old school manual 🙂 Thank you .

Does anyone know the diameter for the lens hood for the Minolta MD 35mm shift. It has two front threads an inner 55mm filter thread and an outer thread for the hood. I thought it was 67mm after measuring but trying a couple of step rings the 67 is too big, 62 is too small?
