Sony A7 : Cant get 24MP

Hi, 

 

I am having a little problem with my Sony A7 camera. When set to 3:2, i try and choose my largest Megapixel setting and i should be able to select 24. However the largest available is 10. Im not sure if there is something i am missing? 

 

I have updated the firmware and still the largest Megapixel setting is 10. 

 

Can anyone help/ have any ideas that might help me out.

Is APSC crop mode on? Do you have an APSC lens on the camera?

Looks like the wrong menu. Don't use the "camera" menu. 

Use the "gear" menu. On my 7-II it's number 5. It may be 

slightly different for yours. Regardless, you should switch 

to the "gear" menu.

What setting would you use from the gear menu?  Image size is in the camera menu.  I suspect he has his camera in crop sensor mode.

Uh huh and #5 in the gear menu controls that ... 

as specified, thaz in the a7-II, but it should get

him close even if it's not exactly "5" in his menu.  

  

Image Size is NOT the crop control. It controls 

the file size.

Again I suspect he has the camera set to automatically reduce size when he places a crop sensor lens on his camera.  On my A7rII this is the "APS-C/Super 35mm" option gear icon tab 6.

Sounds like you are using a lens designed for a cropped sensor rather than a FF sensor. If this is the case, then the A7 by default will crop the sensor appropriately, which in turn physically uses less of the sensor, resulting in your 10MP image output. Sony's 'FE' lenses are designed for full utilisation of full frame sensors and will result in the 24MP image output you desire. Hope this helps.

It would be nice if the original poster, James, would acknowledge the advice here....It was a month ago when he posted and no response to the rather uniform opinions that he is in crop sensor mode.

IMNSHO it's just a "Who cares" ... this thread died when it was 5 days 

old ... despite two later, but unneeded, resurrections. But for anyone

As i have purchased a7ii, i have the same issue, maximum photo output is 10MP.

I finally found the APS-C, it should be turned OFF or set to AUTO then you can adjust the maximum megapixel to 24. Thanks community. ???

Thanks. By put AUTO on APS-C Size Capture (Gear #5), it turns 10MP to 24MP.

Know that feeling my friend. I was able to solve some of the issues I had with my camera thanks to several posts on this site.
