When I was shooting film, I used to buy an inexpensive body and pair it with an expensive lens and shoot with pro film. Now I'm doing the opposite. The body cost so much, I've been trying to get by with inexpensive lenses with predictable results. I've also been buying some inexpensive Chinese made binoculars (actually, almost all binoculars are Chinese made) with pretty impressive performance and was hoping for the same with camera lenses. Seems I'm far more critical of the performance of camera lenses. I just ordered some lens test charts. Amazon.com : DGK Color Tools High Resolution 8.5x11" Chrome SD Professional Lens Test Chart, 3-Pack : Offi…

Hey everyone, I've been noticing strange noises when filming with my Sony A7SIII and the Sony FE 24–70mm f/2.8 GM lens. The camera is running on factory settings, and I'm using autofocus. Has anyone else experienced similar issues? I've uploaded a video that shows the problem in more detail. I suspect it might be related to the lens since I bought it second-hand. I'd really appreciate any tips or solutions! My Setup: Camera: Sony A7SIII Lens: Sony FE 24–70mm f/2.8 GM Settings: Factory defaults Focus Mode: Auto Focus Let me know in the comments if you've had similar experiences or any ideas on how to fix this! Here’s the …

Hello guys, here I share my impressions of the Brightin Star 11mm 2.8 fisheyelens for night photography, and share some photos taken with it at the end of the post. Introduction The Brightin Star 11mm 2.8 is a fisheye lens, with manual focus, which is available for different mounts, including Sony's E mount. It is a very interesting lens because of its focal length, large aperture and price - it currently costs just 213 euros (https://brightinstar.com/products/brightin-star-11mm-f2-8-full-frame-wide-angle-starry-sky-fisheye-lens-suitable). After some time using it with the Sony A7IV, here are my impressions of using it. Construction The con…

Recently I have acquired the PZ 16-35mm F4 G lens, and noticed some focus jump/focus pulse too fast while using this lens with Autofocus enabled on my A7S3 body. I have actually tested this lens at the Sony Store before acquiring this lens, and did not particularly notice this matter, only after when I got it and used it for actual shooting work. It seems to have the issue when I use gimbal to go in closer to the subject's face, it seems to have that 'zoom pump', but it is actually the focus going error for a very fast milliseconds (or looks like focusing the back of the subject in mine), and then slowly focus back to the subject, and it is quite frequent. …

Hello everyone. Here I share my impressions of the Meike 50mm 1.8 lens as a review: Introduction The Meike 50mm 1.8 is a very light and inexpensive autofocus lens. It is available for different mounts. I have been using it for the last few months on my Sony a7IV, and I want to share my impressions. View: original size Construction While most of the Meike lenses have a full metal construction and robustness, the Meike 50mm 1.8 is made of plastic except for the bayonet, which is metal. Even so, the plastic is of good quality, and thanks to it, the lens is very light and portable and very cheap (right now, on Amazon, it costs aroun…

Would like a little feedback on this please. I am shooting with the Sony A7RV body, currently have the 16-35, 24-70, 100-400 Sony lenses. Just ordered the 70-200 2.8 GM2 to replace the 100-400 because I rarely use 200-400 range, only if I need to see something in the distance, rarely for a useable image. I shoot mostly landscapes, mountain imagery. I can always get an extender if I need to go beyond 200 on the 70-200. So the next thing I am considering is selling the 24-70 2.8 GM original or version 1. I was thinking of getting either the 50 or 55mm prime instead and having a much sharper lens vs the 24-70. I usually shoot the 24-70 at 40-70 range. Has anyone done this wi…

I have an a7r2, and my widest lens is the Sony FE24mm f2.8. I mainly shoot landscapes and I am tempted to buy a used Zeiss Batis 18mm f2.8, but I’m not sure how much of a difference it would make over the 24mm. Anyone here have these two focal lengths and if so do you tend to use both?

Thank you!

Good morning all, I will be purchasing a Sony a7 IV pretty soon and am currently considering the Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS lens. I have been shooting for many years and understand what I am loosing with f/4 vs f/2.8 or faster as well as what I am gaining with the a7 IV in terms of resolution and high ISO performance. I am currently shooting with a Canon 80D. What I am asking for is real world experience with this lens as to durability, weatherproofing, sharpness, etc. If you own this lens or have used one, your opinion is wanted. I appreciate your time--thank you.

I'm hoping to see a lot more fast zooms in the 1.8-2 area, but this one doesn't do much for me. If it were 20 or 24 on the short end I'd be interested. Earlier this year a 25-50/2 was rumored, I think from Tamron. That may be interesting, as it might let me remove a 24mm from my bag and not have to toss is a 35 or 50. The focal range on the Sigma seems a lot more useful for video than it does stills, IMO.

Thoughts? I've come to the conclusion that 28 isn't wide enough for what I shoot. The 7.1 is kind of rough too. I know Tamron is focusing on making compact lenses, so speed is going to be sacrificed. I don't mind that some, but this may be a bit too much. I am still hoping Sony releases that 24-200 that was rumored, or maybe someone will announce a 20-something that doesn't cost $3k like the Sony 20-70 is rumored to be. Just announced: New Tamron 28-300mm f/4-7.1 VC lens – sonyalpharumors

I'm noticing a strange issue with my 24-70GM that seemed to have developed after having more and more auto focus issues with this lens in general. Now, when I turn the zoom ring and hit either end of the zoom range (24mm or 70mm), the focus goes completely out of whack. If I turn it back just slightly from the physical limit, the focus goes back to "normal". It's such a bizarre behavior. I captured the video using my phone and the Imaging Edge App to visualize it. The jump in focus is very noticeable at the end of the focal range in both directions. Even with continuous autofocus and half pressed shutter, I get a significant jumping in focus at those points. Does any…

Hi guys, I haven't been following camera gears for so long and I don't know what's available for the A7. I'm trying to avoid the Sony brands right now because of cost, but I need something 16 or wider for some jobs I will be asked to do. I will be shooting F8 or higher, so aperture don't matter to me so cheaper the better. Notes: -16mm or wider -Aperture don't matter. I will be shooting F8. -Any brand. Don't care as long as its cheap.

I'm confused by the wording of some comparison websites with this lens. Some say it will not focus to infinity. I want to use this lens for landscape photography. What does "not focus to infinity" mean when it comes to focusing on something a few hundred meters away? What's the difference between that, and the clouds in the background (which would pretty much be infinity with this lens)? Can anyone help? I really don't want to buy the G Master version. So this lens would be used for both landscape and interior photography. Thank in advance for any help!

I'm still using the a6500, but preparing for the move to Full Frame. So I'm slowly purchasing as many FF lenses as possible to cover as many genres as I can before I retire. I won't have the money then... Lol I've purchased all the major prime lenses from 14mm to 135mm (14, 24, 35, 50, 85, 135), and then have the 24-70, 70-200, and 200-600. I would like to add the 12-24 for wide landscape images. Would other zooms be helpful, like the 100-400? Maybe. But when is it enough, am I right? Lol I'm hoping to maybe make a few bucks in my retirement years. Anything and everything from Portraits, Grads, Weddings (maybe/not), Sports, and Landscape. Maybe making a small su…

I am using a Sony S7 R2 in the studio setting. I have used this 90 mm macro lens for portraits before with strobes and no problems. Prior to trying today I was using a 24 to 70 G. It fired my strobes every time with no issues. When I attached the 90 mm, the strobes stopped firing when I push the shutter. All strobes fire when hitting the button on the receiver. Am I doing something wrong?

Hello, I lost the case and caps for my 1.4 E-mount teleconverter. I'd love to buy an OEM set of caps and case, but can't find anywhere they are sold. My camera shop says they can't get any. Certainly I can get an aftermarket case, and will likely do so, but I can't find anyone who makes the cap specific to the non-standard lens-side end of the TC. Sources? Ideas? I'm in Portland, Oregon, US. Thanks in advance! Jack Maynard Amateur Bird Photog

I am new to this camera (A7RV) and lens. I have figured out how to use the lens in macro, but I read it can also be used as a long lens. When in manual, if I focus say on a bird and zoom in, when I half press the shutter, the lens jumps out of zoom and changes my focus. I have tried different settings, manual & auto but can't figure it out. It zooms and focuses great, then goes nuts when I depress the shutter. Thank you in advance for any help.

Hello, I have purchased a brand new A7 II and, being a novice user of interchangeable lenses, I have a couple of questions about the 28-70mm kit lens: - Is it safe to turn the manual focus ring while on auto focus or will it damage the lens? I have found some relevant information about this in the following links, but not specific to sony lenses: https://photo.stackexchange.com/q/39705 and https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/2304898 - Is it normal for the lens to make a short, almost inaudible mechanical sound (like a whir) when auto-focusing? Or does it indicate there is a problem with the motor or gears? Thanks.
