Wagonwheel
Good morning all, I will be purchasing a Sony a7 IV pretty soon and am currently considering the Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS lens. I have been shooting for many years and understand what I am loosing with f/4 vs f/2.8 or faster as well as what I am gaining with the a7 IV in terms of resolution and high ISO performance. I am currently shooting with a Canon 80D. What I am asking for is real world experience with this lens as to durability, weatherproofing, sharpness, etc. If you own this lens or have used one, your opinion is wanted. I appreciate your time--thank you.

Jeffreykmd
Own one. Great lens. I use it on an A7R IV with great results.. Erock77
Bokehbobo
I bought my 24-105 new with an a7rIII 5 years ago and it has been my go-to walk around lens ever since. Quick focus acquisition and very effective optical steady shot performance. Extending the focal length is a bit stiff (unlike GM lenses) but otherwise I can't fault it's performance. Excellent camera/lens balance particularly with the 24mm focus length. Go for it!
Wagonwheel
I really do appreciate the replies. I think I have committed to purchasing this lens. Thanks again.
XKAES
Minolta started making 24-105mm zooms decades ago. They are the foundation for the Sony models. I have a Maxxum (a-mount) 24-105mm f3.5/4.5. It's small but hefty -- with great results. I like it so much, I have TWO of them.
felipe
Hola, yo tengo esa lente y con ella me conformo, me vale para todo, es genial, no necesito más y es muy recomendable, no te defraudará fijo 😉 Saludos
MikeInOr
I have made 20" x 30" prints from photographs taken with my 24-105 and my A7RIV. They have been crisp, sharp and contrasty all the way out to the very corners. The only negative I see with the lens is that it is kind of big and kind of heavy, but that is going to be pretty much any full frame zoom. I would highly recommend the 24-105/4 lens! Erock77
I am a week in with this lens and my A7iv. I am having fun but it's def a lot to learn at first. Now I'm just getting comfortable with the whole thing. It's too early to want any other lenses so for now, I'd like to get this one down. There is so much info out there and I think it's too soon to shoot manual. 75% are coming out clear with AF. That's all part of the game!
Cameratose
I use one a lot, like, an awful lot. I've been thinking about adding the 35-150 to my kit, so last night I ran some folders through 'Exposure Plot' (Free software that gives you data on your use of FL, ISO, Shutter speeds, etc.) to see how often I'm using the 35-80 range, and was surprised at how much the 24-105 showed up. It's an older lens and could use updating for things like weather sealing, something Sony isn't known for, a more modern OSS, etc., but it is a very capable lens and well worth the cost. Definitely one of the better 'G' models. Erock77
