I see that there are one or two guides to 7 Series Alpha System cameras but is there an a7R ll specific guide?

Looks interesting but incredibly expensive adwb? I thought Leica publications were expensive but this is more than those. I guess it might be possible to download a pdf version somewhere?

You can buy the e-book (as I did) for about $30 US. The full colour book is £132 which might be well worthwhile but maybe priced as a deterrent.

I printed my own copy of the e-book pdf in colour at a fraction of the printed book price. The reason I printed it is because when reading I could jump to other page references make notes and jump about - easy enough to do electronically on a desktop but sometimes I'd use an iphone and that was a pain.

The reason I went to all this trouble is Friedman knows a7 series inside out and provides the most incredibly comprehensive information. When I bought the A7R2 in July 2015 I was recommended to get "Sony a7 Series - From Snapshots to Great Shots" by Brian Smith. 318 pages but it didn't do much to educated me and there were only a few quick updates specific to the a7R2 even though the publication date says 2016. Had I found Friedman's book first I could have saved  that £20.

Friedman also updates the e-books and emails you the link - he also has links to tutorial/videos.

You gets wot you pays for laddie...

That "From Snapshots .... " series is the direct descendant

of similar books from the film era ... when camera manuals

were much shorter. The oldies and this B. Smith series are

just dumbassed basic photo pablum almost cover to cover

identical for every book in the series, plus the addition of a

few nods to the specific cameras mentioned on the cover.

IOW a cut and paste job, that barely tells anybody anything

less than the most obvious surface stuff about their camera.

I have found youtube tutorials and specific searches relative A7rII much more informative and comprehensible than the printed books which can be very difficult to navigate to for a specific problem.  And youtube is free!

I think you might be right? I think if I downloaded the Friedman pdf, I might just loose the will to live?

I can vouch for Friedman's e-book (PDF on steroids). Very well documented and logical progression. I have the book for A6500 and imagine his A7rii is every bit as good. The PDF is completely navigational meaning you can click on any topic and it takes you directly there. the index and chapter guides are a very simple way to revisit topics that need to be reviewed. Worth every penny. I have a 7rii in my future and will purchase Friedman's book immediately (probably when the camera is in the mail!). Not really a narrative style however extremely comprehensive.

I agree, it looks very thorough, however, I don't think I have the brain capacity to absorb it

may I suggest you investigate that A mode on the top dial, despite being short for ADVANCED it is the simplest of modes to use

Surly it means aperture priority? and I usually leave my camera in that setting unless my requirements are other specific?

Or try P for professional

And there again, P for Program M surly? which is a Mode I haven't used but A for Aperture Priority, S for Shutter Priority and M for Manual Mode I have used as needed?

What is your take on slide and negative scanners? The choice seems to be either the Plustek box style or the flatbed Epson type, the advantage, as I see it being that the flatbed type enables 6X6 negs to be scanned whereas the Plustek style only allows 35mm? Otherwise they both seem to do the same job?

Do you like the new avatar, by the way?
