SONY FE 28MM F2 – WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR

Hey Folks,

 

for me the FE 28mm f2 is the most interesting lens of the four new lenses so I took the time to gather all the available information and full resolution samples images and the MTF graph and analyzed them to summarize what we know abut the lens so far.

This sample and the ones posted by photorumors (without any attributes to who photographed them) shows one thing.  The photographer had no idea about the built in electronic level available in the A7 II.

 

May be it is too much ask for a straight horizon from these Sony testers?

So, I don't know how this works, but I ordered the 28mm F2.0 lens from the Sony Australia website on Sunday. The website was taking orders, and the lens wasn't listed as 'out of stock', like the FE 35mm F1.4 lens. The Sony store salesman assured me availability for the lens would be more than a month away.

 

It arrived today.

Now you have the chance to show the world the first full resolution landscape images (f/5.6 and f/8 on a tripod would be great) and I would look forward to a few more bokeh shots.

I see a hood. Could you put that on the lens and show it?  There isn't a single picture of that hood I can find anywhere.

Never mind.  I found out it is ALC-SH112.

 

The very same one for the NEX kit zoom 18-55! 

 

(Replacement costs $2.25/shipped from China.)

Yes, it's very odd that Sony didn't show the hoods of the new lenses.

Looks pretty good, thanks for sharing.

 

Seems to be a very nice story telling lens; wide enough to place a person in their environment and f/2 is fast enough to separate the main subject from the background.

Great with 21mm ultra wide converter too! Decently sharp landscape / cityscape lens. A must have for weight conscious travellers.
