I have a Sony a7 ii camera and the LA-EA5 adapter works fine with it.
With the LA-EA5 adapter on the Sony a7 ii, lenses with A mount work with autofocus if they are SAM or OSS, but you don't have Eye AF. The rest of the Sony A Mount lenses and the Minolta AF lenses I have, work only in Manual Focus, but to help to focus you can use Focus Peaking and/or Focus Assistance, which are great as an aid for manual focusing. For even older non AF lenses, additionally, you need to set the camera for the purpose (Menu > Release w/shutter > On).
I think that you would need at least a Sony a7 iv to have AF with lenses with A mount not being SAM or OSS, but you better check out. Here is a Sony's website where you can have a first look for compatibilities:

I can even use A Mount APS-C lenses for which AF will work with the a7 ii if being SAM or OSS though sacrificing resolution (which I normally don't for taking pictures). But this diminished resolution does not affect me for filming video on mp4 or AVCHD or whatever up to 4K with a camera of 24 MP, as those formats are less than 10 MP, which is about the resulting resolution for using an APS-C lens with a 24 MP full frame sensor, so I do use them for video.
+ 1 on the above comment.
Just to avoid deception, and add to the information, please note that the Minolta or Sony 1.4X and 2X APO converters will not work with these adapters.
