  1. Hi, I've been shooting some slow motion (120 fps) on my a7rii and have been getting a lot of noise in my blacks showing up.. not sure how to best avoid this. I've been shooting slog2 on crop 35 with a zeis 55mm and setting auto iso with max iso to 3200-6400 depending on whether it's dark out or not. The noise is even present during the daytime (you can see in the dark areas). For 24 fps 4K, there is almost no noise under these same settings (daytime or night time)... Here's a sample video that I shot under these settings: And here's a guy I saw that shot 120 fps in full frame: I've read that you get better image quality in crop mode (especially at night) so I've been using that paired with the 720 quality. I've seen samples that the picture quality can nearly match the a7s in crop up to 25,600 iso (at least for HD) and was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to best eliminate the noise. Should I instead use FF and max my iso a little higher?
  2. Hey gals and guys, I have a quick question. This seems to be a point of frustration for a few but I've yet to seek out a good solution to something I would like to do. If you wanted to set your Sony camera to take a sequence of photos every, say, 5 seconds, and repeat until you tell it to stop, what would you use to accomplish this? Is there a (reliable) app for our cameras that gets this done? Is there a tethering solution that gets this done? I'm fine with either setup, I don't NEED it to be tethered to a computer, but my needs are beyond the self timer. I need it to continue to take photos until I tell it to stop. Reliably. For these photos, I will be triggering flashes via pocket wizards. Thank you in advance for your input everyone, Kyle
  3. Hey folks, I am shooting Hilary again in the studio (this is being posted at 5:45pm EST time on Tuesday Jan 12th) and this is going to be a part of my Review of the 85mm Zeiss Batis Lens. If you want to follow me on Periscope to watch the shoot when I got live, add me @kyleandrewphoto to watch through the app, or click here to watch live on the web (although the app will inform you exactly when I go online and Live if you follow me and set it to do so). This picture was taken a few moments ago:
  4. As I was preparing my cam for a coming dive trip, I wanted to shoot video this time with custom white balance, so I assigned M2 for underwater video, but I realized that I can't assign a custom white balance in memory recall modes?! Why is that Sony? This does not make any sense! The whole idea of a custom setting is to have a custom setting! Underwater, we need to set a new custom white balance every 3-5 meters depth. In addition, the idea of having M1 and M2, is to save presets for different shooting conditions. So, while M1 is set for UW photography for example, M2 is for UW video. The first, can be shot with AWB, but the latter needs custom WB if strobes are not used. Please have this issue updated in a firmware, and hopefully also giving us option to assign (Set White Balance) to a custom bottom as well, instead of assigning the whole WB menu! Make our life easy please!
  5. Is anyone using the tamron SP 35mm F1.8 Di vc USD lens with sony A7rii?The tamron website says it is also compatible with sony cameras, so does that mean you wont be needing any adaptors to use this lens? I know the VC function is not for the sony cameras but what about the autofocus performance? Does this lens works with A7rii as good as it works with nikons and cannons?
  6. Ropework by Midori - shot with a IR Sony A7Rii - cropped a lot. I censored nude woman as I do not know the policy of nudes here. I drove up from Ohio last week to hit the Araki show in Manhattan at the Museum of Sex. Very happy with show other than no spermanko photos. (Possible due to the lady curator's personal prejudice, but that was speculation from some people 'in the know' I spoke with.) Also took in a show at the ICP (Cartier-Bresson and Erwitt, among others) Backpacks were not allowed in the Museum, so I bought a fisherman's vest and took in 4 cams. Shot about 300+ photos, but who know when I will get to them. (I'm worse than Winogrand. I got photos going back to 2013 that need looking through. But it is not my choice, just no time.) I was very happy I found out how to convert Sony RAW. I downloaded a DNG converter from Adobe. My LR 5.71 wont convert them. On the con side, my bike got stolen a few hours after parking it at the PATH station.
  7. I currently own an A99. I have some investment in o A mount lenses, but not too much to the point where it'd be hard to justify a switch to the E mount. I like my A99. However, I am interested in taking advantage of some potential savings while I can still get some money for my A99. I am a scuba diver and one thing I have been frustrated with is the ability to get an underwater housing for my A99. It seems that most of the underwater housing companies have moved on to the E mount cameras. I am currently a hobbyist whose done some professional work. I am planning to take on more professional work. My focus is will be on architectural, commercial, and product primarily. I may also do some portrait photography. I will also use my gear in underwater situations. That will be more of a hobby (vacations, etc.). I love the idea of going all-in and switching to the A9, however, I can't justify the spend for that. I do like the idea of taking advantage of some savings on the Sony A7R II that are going on now. However, I understand there are several limitations with that camera. So, then I come to the A7RIII versus just upgrading to the A99II (I fear the lack of an underwater housing here). Given the choice between the A7RII and the A7RIII, which would you choose? Or would you bite the bullet and just go for the A9? I am thinking about the long term. I'd like to invest in a system that I'll use for the next 15 - 25 years. Your feedback is appreciated!
  8. I have the opportunity to get permission to record a concert in a small club with a couple of cameras for a mix. Two of the cameras will be the A6000 and A7RII. I am planning to record in the best possible resolutions for each of the cams and then scale down or up in the post processing. Total running time will be between 2.5 - 3h recording. I know the A6000 has some massive overheating issues for longer continuous recording, so I will probably use that for shorter hand shot sequences. Are there the same issues on the A7RII or can I just mount it on a tripod and let it run? If there are restrictions, are there any tweaks to avoid overheating and to allow continues recording? Is it possible to trigger video recording remotely? Can I use external battery packs while shooting video? Any help and tips or recommendation to external forums are much appreciated!
