I have lotsa model-name-emblazened

neck straps still in original packaging. 

I do use neck straps, but I wouldn't be

caught dead wearing those things ....

I use an Op/tech harness on all my cameras and my binocs. It's brilliant!

I never have a neckstrap attached to a camera, I think they are designed to hook behind something and make you drop your expensive cam and lens. If I go on the town I use a blackrapid strap attached to the tripod connection.

It came with the camera, but that does not mean it is free. You were forced to buy it, no choice.

I use a black rapid strap in the tripod mount so camera doesn't bounce off my chest every step I take... positioned almost behind me on my left side if I have a good pace going. Original strap made me crazy.

With camera, it's free. Bought separately it's 

[just guessing] $12.95 but that $12.95 is 99% 

packaging, marketing, distribution, inventory 

costs, etc. The other $0.02 is the actual cost 

of the manufacturing the strap.

free is not exactly the same as $0.02 :-)
