Pics with Zeiss Distagon FE 35mm f/1.4

Some info about the onion rings and where they come from:

Well, I like everything this lens does. From bokeh, color, contrast and sharpness which combined creates great 3d pop to the vignette wide open (some people seem to rant about - duh).

I had to get used to the size and weight a bit though, but that settled. I only wish it had real manual focus, shot some video lately and those focus pulls just don't look smooth. But then again I like its fast AF and focus by wire for me works good for photography.

Btw: Posted some street stuff shot with the Distagon over here:

^Thank you will check out those links, always pertinent to do as much homework as possible before purchasing i feel, its a relatively costly investment for some folks such as myself but not completely out of reach.

Personally im willing to make trade offs such as size/weight etc if the image quality is superlative. I hope they bring out an 85 in the future too thats in the same league.

I guess it takes some time to work out the strengths of a lens and use it for the type of applications where it can really excell?

What a lens; lot's of character.  Not small but feels good and the results are worth the weight and size IMHO.  Just got the lens and grabbed this quick shot on walk to neighborhood store.  I love legacy glass, but with this new lens I now feel I can go to old lenses out of choice rather than need.

Both Otii also suffer from onion ring bokeh in OOF highlights.  It's a shame because lenses that sell for much less undergo a finishing process that mitigates the flaw.

Overall, though the medium format look of the Otii can't be beat.  CA control and resolution (plus the artistic freedom to absolutely compose and capture as a result) make a little stinky onions worth it.

I don't even have an E-mount camera yet as I'm still using my A900. Even so, I purchased the f1/4 35mm lens and rat-hole it until Sony releases the updated A7rII. No, I don't mind placing the cart in front of the horse as the lens is much less likely to go out of style before any camera.
