manual focus override in AF-c? 24-70/85 gmaster

Recommended Posts

it seems like I cannot manual focus while in AF mode...

do these lenses NOT have manual override???

i have to reprogram focus hold to toggle MF/AF which is an extra step.  many canon and nikon lenses allow manual focus override.

Use DMF mode. Thaz why it's there.

You wouldn't hafta reprogram to use

AF/MF toggle if you use AF/MF toggle

all the time ;-)

The Big Secret to getting the most

out of menu driven gear is just quit

wishin-n-bitchin and find out which

functions best serve your needs.

You can build your own cameras that

are exactly what you want. But the

only affordable way to do that is to

build tens of thousands of them. And

if you do that, you can't build them

to suit you personal idiosyncrasies

cuz you gotta get tens of thousands

of strangers to buy the other X9,997

cameras. Catch 22. Life sux. And very

clearly I lied in the first sentence of

this paragraph, just in hope that you'd

read the rest of it. I'm a Rat Fink !

do these lenses NOT have manual override???

i have to reprogram focus hold to toggle MF/AF which is

an extra step.  many canon and nikon lenses allow manual

focus override.

This part in particular:

"many canon and nikon lenses allow manual focus override."

Yes there is manual focus overide IN THE LENS ... usually

due to a non-mechanical link in the lens drive, such as an

ultrasonic drive, which uses vibrations-in-air as its drive

medium [ultrasonic drive].

But even the camera brands that offer such lenses require

that you use the buttons and menu choices to get practical

application of such things as sonic drive. Consider: You

really CAN manually refocus a sonic drive lens that is, at

the moment, in autofocus mode. Yes you can refocus it and

won't damage anything. But so what ? When you approve

that final focus tweak it's time to press the shutter button ...

and doing *that* will cause the lens to AF again, negating

your tweak. Acoarst that would be pointlessness. So you

go into the menus, buttons, and switches to disable the lens

from AF-ing away from your manual final focus tweak.

So .... there are no "canon and nikon lenses [that] allow

manual focus override." The lens alone can't simply, very

conveniently, all-by-itself, offer "manual focus override".

You hafta set up the camera, or at least keep a finger on

the AF-lock whilst using other fingers to manually tweak

the focus and then, while again nailing the AF-lock with

whatever finger, you use some other finger to release the

shutter. Common sense says to reconfig the camera rather

than do the finger-finger-finger thing.
