Lili
Hi everyone, I have a Sony alpha 7C camera with a Sony FE 4.5-5.6 / 70-300 G OSS lens. Someone in a shop told me that the tele converter Sony SEL20TC would feat but I can’t fix it with my lens!😐 I would appreciate if someone could tell me which converter will suit the best my lens and my camera ? Here is two pictures of my stuff. Thanks in advance for your help. Lili from Switzerland. Cor Haz Trepte.
Advertisement Posted September 4, 2021 Posted September 4, 2021 Hi Lili, Take a look here Converter Sony and lens FE 4.5-5.6 / 70-300 G OSS. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Pieter
I don't see the pictures but none of the teleconverters will fit on that lens. They only fit on the 70-200 f/2.8 GM, 100-400 GM, 200-600 G, 400mm f/2.8 GM and 600mm f/4 GM. If a guy at the store told you it would fit, I'd file a complaint and request a refund. Lili
Hi Pieter, Thanks for your help. Here is the picture. It shouldn’t be a problem to have a refund. So it’s not possible to find a converter for this lens ? Even trough another brand (canon, sigma, nikon..) ? Welcome, dear visitor! Pieter
Sorry to say but there's no teleconverter that will fit properly on this lens. There's a way to make your 2×-converter fit, by shimming the rear end of the lens with extension tubes (I think you'd need about 14 mm), but that way autofocus becomes questionable and you'll loose infinity focus. I guess this is not what you're looking for. For the price of the 70-300 and 2× extender you can buy the Tamron 150-500 or Sigma 150-600. If you really need the reach, I think that would be an option to consider. Edited September 4, 2021 by Pieter Lili
XKAES
I'm not familiar with the camera or lens, so I'll simply ask -- Do you mean Sony doesn't make a Tele-Converter for this camera or for this lens -- or the combination?
thebeardedgroundsman
Looking on the Sony website - compatibility charts. The 2x converter is only compatible with one "G" lens (200-600) and 4 "G Master" lenses. Unfortunately it appears to be the same for the 1.4x converter - they are compatible with the camera body. It appears that there are no third party teleconverters for Sony mirrorless cameras. Lili
XKAES
WOW!!! I'm not a big fan of tele-converters, but at times they are helpful, and sometimes necessary. This is really quite surprising, and something shutterbugs should be aware of and consider when buying these cameras. Lili

I think I have a another option : as a birder fan, I have a Kowa prominar TSN 4 20x60 and a kowa adaptator 1:15.6/1200 (I used to fix it with my old argentic Minolta 7000 ). Do you know how I could fix my new Sony alpha 7c with my kowa adaptator ? I was told I had to buy a ring “bague” (French) but I don’t know which one would fit the best. Thanks again for your help. XKAES
I have a great Tamron 20-60X (1000-3000mm) zoom spotting scope. It has a t-mount built-in so it's easy to take photos with it. I have, with a tripod, of course. The results and not bad, but nothing to write home about. Good for identifying distance wildlife, etc. but nothing worth putting in a frame! If you used your Kowa on your Maxxum 7000, and were satisfied with the results, you should have no problem attaching it to your Sony. All you should need is an A-to-E adapter. Since you won't need any focusing or aperture control through the camera, you can use any inexpensive adapter -- I would imagine. This is really quite surprising, and something shutterbugs should be aware of and consider when buying these cameras. As per the license agreement for Sony E-mount, as of yet it's not allowed for third parties to produce teleconverters for Sony E-mount. Sigma makes both the 100-400 DG DN and 150-600 DG DN for E-mount and L-mount, and the L-mount version takes a Sigma teleconverter. But Sigma states they're not allowed to produce it for E-mount. Source: https://sonyalpha.blog/2020/07/21/sigma-100-400mm-f5-6-3-dg-dn-os-contemporary/ What's more, the Sony 1.4× and 2× teleconverters physically fit on the Sigma lenses, but you'll loose aperture control and AF. So for now, if you want full functionality and a teleconverter, you're stuck with one of the Sony branded ones and a compatible lens: On 9/4/2021 at 8:18 PM, Pieter said: They only fit on the 70-200 f/2.8 GM, 100-400 GM, 200-600 G, 400mm f/2.8 GM and 600mm f/4 GM.
