I'm having an issue with the manual focus on a Sony A6000 and I'm very curious to see if anyone else has experienced similar issues.

We use the A6000 to live stream the worship services at my church, so the camera is mounted on the back wall of the room and aimed at the stage. I manually focus the camera, so that it is not constantly autofocusing when people move around stage. So far, we have gotten pretty good results with this. But I noticed that every couple of weeks, the camera is out of focus, the image is blurry. So I refocus it manually (16m). The camera does not get moved or even touched between uses, so how does the manual focus get unfocused?

  • A couple of notes
    • We run the camera on a power adapter, not a battery
    • The camera turned on/off remotely with a JJC SR-F2 remote
    • I leave the camera in Memory Recall code, using a preset I created. But I am fairly certain the same issues occurs when I leave it Manual mode
    • We are using a Sony 55-210mm f/4.5-6.3 OSS E Mount Autofocus lens
    • The camera and lens are both about 3 months old

Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Some folks suggest explicitly setting the lens's AF/MF switch to MF. Then it should retain its set focus across shutdowns of the body.

Thanks for directing me towards that thread. This seems to be exactly the issue I am describing and it explains why the focus resets when the camera powers off.

Unfortunately, the Sony 55-210mm f/4.5-6.3 OSS E Mount Autofocus lens does not have a AF/MF switch on it.
