A7III sometime takes multiple shots in Single Shot Mode

Recommended Posts

Sometimes my A7III takes multiple shots when pressing the shutter button even though drive mode is set to Single Shot.

I checked here for help https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/articles/00056012 but non of the settings mentioned are active:

Camera is set to Manual
Drive mode is Single Shot
ISO is 100 or Auto
No Auto HDR/Picture Effect/Scene Selection as I'm shooting RAW

Any idea why this happens?

Firmware is on newest version 3.01

Hi Pieter,

yes, it's multiple shutter clicks. Bracketing is off. I have Drive mode in "Single Shot"

It just happens once in a while. When I turn the camera off and on again, everything is back to normal, without changing any settings.

The exact same thing keeps happening to me too. It’s gotten much more frequent in the last few weeks and is really frustrating bc I end up taking lots more photos “by accident”. Have you learned anything since posting this? I searched online but haven’t found much.

I have the very same thing. Also focusing is sometimes hesitant, so much so that I use the back button focus and have switched the focus with shutter release button off.  It has something to do with the button itself, for when I use a wired remote (and switch focus with shutter release button on ) focusing is instant and the camera takes only one picture. I am thinking to send the cam in for repairs as it is still under warranty.

I too have the same issue but in my case it's even worse. I use A7III and i started facing this issue before 10 months, gradually with time it became worse it happened more frequently and not 2 but 3 clicks at a time. I also had another Big Problem where my sensor wabbles or shakes while recording video. So i finally managed to give it to Sony Service Centre on March 3rd 2020 and after a long waiting of 4 months i recieved my camera today (cudos to Sony for their exlelent service) And when i checked my camera i didn't see sensor shaking issue but yes the Double Shot issue hasn't resolved. I don't know what to do ...but now i don't wana give my camera to sony again. Even then don't have the solution for it i guess.

In my team we have 5 A7iii including mine and every camera has the same issue but it's not noticeable ,it happens very rarely. But mine was exceptional. I also don't have any idea what to do or how should i raise a complaint against it . Because it seems after every update Sony tends to make their camera little bit slow or laggy . It doesn't feel snappy anymore as it was after buying.

This Saturday, had the same 2 times (using A7ii) when taking a photo with huge contrast (2 times, both have two "clicks").

Sun, thru forest, there were 2 "clicks" per shot.

Did not press shutter button for longer time, as mentioned, connection between two images is just huge contrast.

It may be related to HDR, even DRO Sony Dynamic Range Optimization settings (even, this option is being "leveled").

On A3000 there were more options using multiple shots to create one photo, working automatically. On A7ii is different.

Question is if photos created by both "clicks" were saved individually. I did not check that later.

    • I'm beginning to think that I have a misconception about the a7R. The one I was wanting had the shutter release button on the hand grip with a resolution of 36mp. It appears the button moved to the handgrip on the a7R II model, which had 42mp resolution.  Sorry for any confusion, I'm in the learning stage yet.  😕 I may need to go with the basic a7 II at 24mp. The 36mp (R) model had the shutter release on the camera body (which I didn't care for).
    • I'd really like to find a package deal for an a7R (mk I, second generation) which includes the neckstrap and box. I've searched Ebay and currently no one is listing what I'm looking for. They either have the camera only or a first generation a7R and a lot of them don't offer the Sony neckstrap or box it came in. I know your site doesn't have a formal 'Equipment For Sale' thread and granted Ebay is a better place to sell gear but I thought I'd see if any of the members have one and would like to upgrade to a newer model but don't think anyone would be looking for one that old. The cameras I've been using are in the 20 megapixel range and rather than jumping to a 40mp camera due to file size, the 36mp that the first a7R has was appealing to me and wouldn't break the bank. I've been using Canon and Nikon but really want experience a Sony. If a post like this is undesirable for this website, I understand but I thought I would ask. Thank you.
    • Here's a good thread on the issue.... https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4571046 And here is the info on the A7RIVA that maybe explains why I don't see the issue...  The change in wording that caught my attention is that the new A7RIVA brochure says the structure has been "re-examined and redesigned." Don't know, but given the text of other parts of the brochures are copied word for word, the change in text here seems significant. My reading of this is that it is a redesign of the A7RIV. In that case, perhaps the 200-600 issues are less severe with the new body.
