Had a problem like that plus that i needed light and small gear for some fashion shootings when i go to Milan and need to work in the streets somewhere where i don't want to draw attention from the authorities (got escorted from the cemetery by polizia locale once). So i went with the Sony mirrorless. I wanted to wait for the a7rII but it is a complete overkill for me at the moment. :D

Thanks!, second last is my pick of the bunch as it captures the two cars on the front of todays grid. That McLaren really needs some more logos on it.

I have rarely shot motor sports, mostly scenics and wildlife -- birds and youth sports are as fast it it gets for me. I switched from Canon to Sony A7RII and A6000, or glad I did. Given that, I'd say pro sports photography is best left to DSLR fire power, considering the design limits on mirrorless lens and body performance. I love the shots in this thread, but my taste would bring out textures, shadows, detail -- it's pretty contrasty, or maybe it's my iPad.

I also converted to the Sony a7II, it was from a D800. This was mostly for landscapes, sunsets, car shows, architecture, kids, balloon festivals, or what ever.

I also shoot quite a bit of birds in flight, shoot motorsports, soccer, football (both versions  :)) and any other sport. So for that stuff, I kept my D7200, 70-200 f2.8 and Sigma 300 f2.8.

I think at this point, having both systems seems to be a good idea..

Everything I have read and tested myself, the AF is not quite there for quick moving subjects.

A lot of times when they say the mirrorless is the perfect camera for sports, it is in a controlled and predictable environment.

I think it will get there, but not quite there yet.

Great pics. I'm interested in start a F1 blog and flog. I'm passionate for F1 and photography. I'm curious about the press pass. How do you get the access? Only for newspapers?

You need to send your clipping for every race. They are pretty picky when it comes to web media. Most of the web media that gets the pass have around 10+ years of history and almost all of them had also magazines at some point. And itt is nearly impossible to get a photo pass for the web media. They canceled it also during the testing.
