New lens firmware available for SEL35F28Z”, “SEL2470Z”, “SEL55F18Z”, “SEL70200G” and “SEL2870” lenses. This update provides the “Quick starting” function. I ran it on my A7ii with 55 1.8 and on my kit 28-70 lenses. Updated lens version from .01 to .02 and start up times are faster. The file linked is for the 55 1.8 lens. To get the others just replace the lens number at the end of the URL. I'm in the USA and ran these and they work fine. These are for Windows only. Don't know of any Mac links yet. http://www.sony-asia.com/support/download/602218/product/sel55f18z

Hi everyone. We rented the Zeiss Loxia 35mm f/2 and Sonnar 35mm f/2.8 this past weekend and took them out for a spin. I thought I'd share some photos here with this community. The in-depth review is here. http://ilovehatephoto.com/2015/03/03/zeiss-loxia-35mm-f2-0-vs-zeiss-sonnar-35mm-f2-8-lens-review-comparison/ We went to visit the Endeavour space shuttle at the California Science Center. What at sight! I was surprised to see all the piping and "mechanical-ness" of the main shuttle thrusters. It looked like a complex but still rudimentary engine to me. I somehow thought it would be like a warp drive lol. The front maneuvering thrusters were kind of su…

I've had the STF lens for 6 months now after picking it up for half price (!!!!) at my local closing Sony Store. I've had a lot of fun exploring the capabilities of this lens and overall love it. There are a few big issues I have though- 1) manual focusing accurately at 135mm is HARD with people and moving subjects and 2) the colour the lens produces is miles away from the colour my Zeiss lenses produce, and often takes some real fiddling in Lightroom to get it right. I find the colour of people quite cold and blue cast. But the positives- wow. This lens is producing stunning results for me and I now often look at a scene and before anything else wonder how the STF …

I have a bunch of Minolta MD/MC lens purchased before 1984. Also I have a few Nikon DX lens. I am wanting to buy a Sony Alpha camera but want to know if these lens will work. Mostly I shoot landscapes and closeup of textures. Being a video editor I probably will want to use the camera for video too. Do the Minolta lens work in full frame? Which of the Alpha 7 series cameras would be best with the lens?

Anyone have any good suggestions on a MF 35mm lens to use with the A7ii? Don't want to spend too much money, so the more affordable options would be nice.

Hi, I was thinking of buying a small set of Minolta AF lenses to use it on a A7r II (or whatever it will be called the new body), specifically: - 20 or 24mm f/2.8 - 35mm f/2 - 50 f/1.4 or 1.7 - 100 f/2.8 macro I'm going for the alpha and not the MD for the rare occasions in which I need AF, rare but still present. But given than most of the time I would be using them in manual focus my biggest concern is: how "good" is the feel of manual focus with said lenses? I mean: do they feel, manually focusing them, like you were sliding a cheap plastic ring on top of another plastic ring like the new Nikon? In other words: how the manual focus feels compare…

Howdy everyone, I've been reading about the Minolta 28-70G. I like its features and performance and stuff. My question is thus, how does it hold up against modern lenses in that range? LIke the Tamron and Sony, which are a tiny bit longer at 28-75mm. I know it performs 'well'. From what I have seen, it is an excellent lens. However, before I spend the cash I was wondering if anyone else has got some first hand experience with this combination? As an example, I have a Minolta 35-70 F4 which didn't do well on my Nex-7 via the LA-EA2 adapter. But on the A99 it is most excellent. I focus calibrated both cameras and the Nex-7 just didn't seem to like this lens…

After buying a a7 recently and really looking at the very meager array of Sony lenses available, I'm a bit under-whelmed. I am amazed that Sony has put out so many "a-7" models but so few Sony (not mega-buck Zeiss) lenses to go with them. I'd really love to have something in a Sony full-frame like my SEL18200 that was so handy on my NEX 5 &7. I wonder if there's lenses such as this and maybe a reasonably priced wide angle or two coming any time soon?

I am a new Sony Alpha User - Have been a life long Nikon User . Just trying out the sony Alpha. I bought the above kit recently and have a feeling that the lens is front focussing. I also confirmed the issue with the "lens align" test & also the "row of battery " methodology given in sony website. The lens seems to be front focussing. How to i fine tune the focus . When i go the "Af micro adjust " menu - the amount slider is "greyed" out , when i check with the manual its says you can adjust only " When using an A Mount lens with mount adaptor LA EA2 or LA EA4" . So how do i fine tune autofocus for this lens . I have the latest firmware in the camera so i don't see th…

I own a A7 and a D7000. In a few months(whenever a APS-C stabilized A7000 comes), I will sell the D7000 and the lenses. The target is to have A7 with a ultrawide zoom (currently using 14mm F2.8 from Samyang but its too wide. Great for Astro, but sometimes you need to narrow down a bit). A good choice would be 16-35 FE. But 1. Its slow F4 is a little slow for astro work 2. Its expensive I was checking out third party lenses and it seems there is a 1. Tamron 15-30 F2.8 in the works 2. Tokina 16-28 F2.8 already being sold. I am not sure if (2) is available for Alpha. Can you list some good fast zooms which do 15-30mm approx range? I will buy a LA-E…

Apologies if this is not the most intelligent question. Novice here. The above lens is a highly rated lens. I have seen images produced and they are very sharp and capable of producing creamy bokeh as well. Interesting for a minute if you think that it's an F4 lens. I am curious to know if an f4 FE lens on a Full Frame sensor camera is behaving like an f2 on an APSC sensor? In other words, you don't necessarily need f2 or brighter to get desired results (DOF bokeh) since you are using a FF sensor.

I take it A mounts can be discussed here. I've ben using - and love - a 1993 Minolta 24-70 G series lens extensively on my A99 for two years (and previously on the A900) and it is now starting to falter... The aperture is getting "sticky" and it isn't consistent anymore. So I am contemplating the purchase of a new replacement Zeiss 24-70 f2.8 SSM. This lens has been out since 2008 and of course, I am eager to get it as soon as possible - BUT, with winter light and winter daylight saving time back in effect, I can wait until late winter as I usually hibernate at this time of year and don't really shoot until mid February in southern France (I love the photogenic Nice carn…

Hi, First time posting here, hoping someone might be able to help me out. I'm planning on getting a variable ND filter for my Sony a7s. I currently have the 55mm prime and hope to get the 16-35mm (when I can afford it) and 24-240mm (when it comes out). My question is, what thread size should I get? I'm thinking a 77mm one (as they seem to be more available), paired with a step ring for each lens, but will Sony release future lenses (the 24-240mm) at larger filter sizes (like the G 28-135mm, which is 95mm)? Thanks Ed
