  1. Hi guys, Allow me to share a few of my shots that I recently took in NYC. These shots were taken with a sony a7rII and the loxia 21mm lens. Hope you enjoy them and please feel free to comment (constructive critics are accepted). Also if you are interested in checking out more of my work, here's a link: my 500px account
  2. I am currently struggling if I should replace/ sell my loxia 35mm. This is a really good lens that I have enjoyed so much to use, especially when I am alone and that I could dig into enjoying the pure joy of photography. I have no complaints to the quality. The only problem here being, I purchased a 35mm lens mainly for walk-around and travel light, alongside with my 55mm. I currently also own a 16-35 F4. So I was thinking, if I should get the sigma lens + adapter cheap, should I replace it, with autofocus? Anyone has used it on 1st gen a7 and what was it like? e.g. focus speed, weight. I like doing videos with my friend when I am travelling, and I found that a MF lens is actually not as convenient during a journey. So I have 3 potential options: 1) Replace Loxia with Sigma 2) Keep Loxia and travel with 16-35 F4 + 55mm 3) Sell Loxia (you dont need a 35mm prime!) If I sell the loxia I would probably use the money for a batis 85mm or 70-200 F4. But indeed I am not much into portraits but instead I intend to use it for landscape when a telephoto lens is needed. (or sometimes sports) Any inputs would be appreciated!
  3. Hi there I would like to share my newest film school project "Proactive" shot on the Sony a7S II in 4K with ZEISS Loxia 2/50 and Sony FE 28mm f/2 lenses. You can display English subtitles by clicking on CC. Instead of using S-Log3 I shot everything with the Gamma set to "Cine 4" and Color Mode set to "S-Gamut3.cine". This gave me a flat image without all the color banding issues of S-Log3. Editing was done in Premiere Pro, VFX in After Effects, and grading in DaVinci Resolve with the help of FilmConvert. You can see some before and after stills at the bottom of this page: davidequatela.de/proactive I greatly appreciate your feedback! Thanks, Davide Quatela
  4. I have been trying really hard to get myself a loxia 35mm lens hood but could hardly find one, new or used. Would anyone be able to help? I live in London, UK.
  5. A7m2 @ ISO100, with Loxia 50mm @ f9 (focus at 7m), and Lee Seven5 Big Stopper for ca 3sec exposure, 6 image stitch using RRS Pano Head and PT GUI. With all the setup ... I forgot to take a white balance measurement to help correct the cast of the Big Stopper ... This was my first go at a stitched panorama, its very interesting to "build an image up", rather than "crop an image down". Higher res on 500px.
  6. Just received my beautiful Loxia 21mm and 50mm. Upon comparing the lenses I noticed that the 21mm has a significantly stiffer resistance when focusing compared to the 50mm. Anyone out there own both and can share their experience? Very much appreciate it. I might be over reacting to this, but after dropping that cash I am getting paranoid. Thanks!
  7. Hi All, I went down to the Classic Camera shop when the Zeiss Demo day was on and they had 2 Loxia 21mm lenses to test. I brought down my classic Zeiss ZF.2 21mm to compare with it although it was a quick and dirty test on a tripod. I attached below the photos processed on capture one with no sharpening etc on my flickr account. A7r ii + Loxia 21mm f8 www.flickr.com/photos/133862584@N08/23192293609/in/dateposted-public/ ZF.2 21mm f8 www.flickr.com/photos/133862584@N08/23264545920/in/dateposted-public/ Loxia 21mm f2.8 www.flickr.com/photos/133862584@N08/23560231445/in/dateposted-public/ ZF.2 21mm f2.8 www.flickr.com/photos/133862584@N08/23264560480/in/dateposted-public/ The build quality of the lens is excellent and hood seems to be well designed to shield the part of the lens that extends(a tiny bit) from the elements. The only problem I had was with mounting and removing the lens as it is quite tight on the A7rii mount and almost the whole lens turns (focus ring is 2\3 of the front then a bit in the middle that does not turn and then the aperture ring). The lens is the perfect size for the A7 system.
  8. The new Zeiss Milvus lenses were announced today. This is a new line of full-frame manual focus primes for Canon/Nikon DSLRs (obviously adaptable to Sony E-mount). So what is the reason for introducing this new line alongside Zeiss' pre-existing ZE/ZF.2 lenses (retroactively labelled "Classic")? It (so far) doesn't appear that the Milvus lenses are replacing the older ones. What's the distinction between the Milvus line and the Otus line? I'm also wondering about the exterior design - Zeiss has clearly tried to maintain some consistency in designing their recent lenses - the Touit, Otus, Batis and Milvus lenses all look like one family almost. So why do the Loxia lenses appear so distinct? Is there a renegade Loxia design department within Zeiss?
  9. Hello Guys, I just bought a7s with Loxia 50mm, moving to Sony, yay! The focus ring on my Loxia makes a little sound like two metals touching, it is smooth from the beginning, a bit heavy on the middle, then again smooth till infinity. The sound is biggest when I focus in the middle. Is this normal for this lens or should I get it checked? I've used manual vintage lenses before this, and never got this sound. That's why I'm worried. P.S. The sound is nothing notable, but when you put it to your ear you can hear it clearly. Cheers
  10. Who wants to speculate on what Zeiss Loxia lenses will come next? I'm just thinking of focal lengths for the moment. I believe Zeiss has said there will be (at least) five Loxia lenses, and a US Zeiss manager has said he believes a wide and a tele prime would likely be available by end 2015. The 35mm and 50mm are already released. I guess the tele prime would be 85mm. That would leave two wide primes to bring the number to five. Which two of these do you think would be most likely? 15mm 18mm 21mm 25mm 28mm
  11. Hi everyone. We rented the Zeiss Loxia 35mm f/2 and Sonnar 35mm f/2.8 this past weekend and took them out for a spin. I thought I'd share some photos here with this community. The in-depth review is here. http://ilovehatephoto.com/2015/03/03/zeiss-loxia-35mm-f2-0-vs-zeiss-sonnar-35mm-f2-8-lens-review-comparison/ We went to visit the Endeavour space shuttle at the California Science Center. What at sight! I was surprised to see all the piping and "mechanical-ness" of the main shuttle thrusters. It looked like a complex but still rudimentary engine to me. I somehow thought it would be like a warp drive lol. The front maneuvering thrusters were kind of surreal to see in person, since we've all seen movies like 2001 Space Odyssey or Star Wars. The Loxia's 10 blade rounded aperture also produced some nice sunstars from the halogen spotlights. There was a pretty sweet Lockheed A-12 Blackbird twin seat trainer at display in the front. It's the only Blackbird trainer ever built. The cockpit reminds me of a X-Wing fighter. Hope you guys like the photos and the review!
