Sony Alpha Full Frame Lenses

Lenses for Sony A7 / Sony A7R / Sony A7S by Sony and other manufacturers like Zeiss Loxia

  1. NB: I will NOT be responsible for any broken/unusable teleconverters. Also, I just want to preface this by saying that I am NOT a Sony shooter; I am personally a Canon shooter so there is no way that I can verify this myself. Sony's restriction of 3rd party glass using teleconverters is pretty well known. I had a friend who uses Sony and shoots wildlife with me, and he was kinda jealous of Canon and Nikon for having affordable supertelephoto prime lenses available via EF to RF or F to Z adapters. Sure, you could always adapt EF or F glass to E mount, but the autofocusing performance is always lacking. This was until the release of the Sigma 500mm f…

  2. I bought a Sony 24-105 with OSS. My question is, how do I know it is working when fitted to Sony A6100? When I switch on camera OSS in my A7C with non OSS lens, I can feel a slight vibration in the camera and the viewfinder appears steady. When I use a Nikon lens with OSS and depress the shutter button half way I get a very pronounced vibration, can hear a motor running and the viewfinder steadies itself. I recently bought the lens above. When I use it on my A6100 with OSS on the lens switched on I don't feel or hear anything and there is no obvious change in the viewfinder. So how do I know if it is working? Is there supposed to be any feedback that OSS is doin…

I have a Sony 90mm macro lens. At the front end of the lens there's a thin metal ring (similar to a step up/step down ring) that's part of the lens. Somehow it became loose and can fall off. It appears to hold a rubber gasket in place. I'd like to know what the best kind of glue is to attach to the lens. Thank you, MaryAnn

  4. My 200-600 lens has a problem that I've read can be fixed by replacing the zoom position potentiometer. The specific failure is that the lens won't focus past 300 mm, and occurs when the camera comes out of standby. The problem occurs with both of my cameras, and I've discovered a workaround that requires that the camera be turned off, then on again with the lens set to 300mm or so. By pressing on the shutter button while zooming out to 600mm, focus at the longer focal length is restored. This is repeatable. I do not wish to spend about $600 to have the zoom position potentiometer replaced at Precision. Since this seems to be a common occurrence with this lens, Sony …

  5. I have been doing real estate photography for last few months. I use sony alpha 7R3 mirrorless camera and FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM II Full-frame Large-aperture Standard Zoom G Master Lens. I get two questions mark type of light dark icons on each image in exact location. Since they show at exact locations in each image, as a common sense, i thought it could be due to some scar in the lens. I cleaned the lens but it is still showing. Not sure if it due to some menu settings or dirty lens. It is so strange. I can share the picture showing the two icons at exact location for all the image.

  6. Started by bs.shoots,

I recently got an a7cii and to pair with the compact body, I thought of getting 2 of the trio compact lenses, 24mm F2.8 and 40mm F4.0. (I already have a 70-200mm) However I stumbled upon the newly released 24-50mm F2.8 G. I'm not sure which to get - I like the small factor of the prime lenses ON the body because it's discreet and helps me blend in as an average tourist / doesn't make it obvious when doing street. But if I add the dimensions of the 2 primes together, it takes up more space in the bag than the zoom lens. BUT THEN, the weight of the 2 prime lenses is 110g lesser than the zoom lens. The zoom lens has the added benefit of being more versatile. …

  7. I have recently had an intermittent issue with my 7RM4 camera using the SEL200600G telephoto. The lens will autofocus no problem but the manual focus ring intermittently stops working. Sometimes if I rotate it back and forth a few times it starts working again- other times I have to power off the camera, remove and reattach the lens and it sometimes works. Has anyone had any experience with this issue? I am thinking about trying to replace the MF sensor assembly- found a repair guide online and it looks doable but not sure if this part is the issue?

  8. Sorry, had to catch your attention somehow. 🙂 I've loved Zeiss lenses for a couple decades--have been a fotog since only 2000--and have had many different versions.. Bought an a7R V weeks ago, attached the Batis 18/2.8, added an 85/2.8 plus a Sony 24-70/2.8 GM II and a Tamrom 50-300 4.5-6.3, and thought I was ready.. But then ordered Batises in 25/2 and 40/2 (arriving today), and then ordered a 135/2.8 to arrive ...tomorrow, Thursday? (How can B&H/FedEx do that--Wed. morn. to Thurs. afternoon--for the few-dollars addon B&H gets for NEXT-day shipping?) Total gear weight without the Tamron will be just 6.8 pounds/3.7kg and 8.4 pounds/3.8kg. with it.. All thi…

  9. Hello all. I have just bought an FE 20mm F1.8 G lens to use with my Alpha 7Rii. Having put the lens on, I noticed that the camera was hunting even when I wasn't composing a shot. This surprised me. I normally use single-shot Auto Focus (not continuous) so I don't understand why this was happening. Thankfully, the lens works fine when you have composed the scene and pressed the shutter halfway. I didn't notice this hunting during a test video either. This hunting (or focus breathing?) seems to happen regardless of the amount of light. I noticed it both indoors and outdoors. I have tried different aperture settings, but no change. I have used a few other …

  10. Hey everyone, Ok so I have had this weird focus problem over year now, where Sony A9 with 200-600mm sometimes doesn't focus further than like 3-4meters away. Even if I try to manual focus the focus doesn't seem to move. So it feels like it has somehow shifted the focus range backwards closer than intended if that makes sense. So for example if I autofocus to tree 3 meters away and turn manual focus on, it shows that the tree 3 meters away is at infinity even though it obviously isn't. Luckily this problem happens quite rarely, sometimes I can go month without seeing it, and it's usually fixed by removing the lens and putting it back on. Although sometimes I can…

  11. I cannot get this lens to hold manual focus. The focus on the lens is in manual. The camera setting is in manual. I can focus the lens and first image is tack sharp. If I either turn camera off, or the energy saver kicks in at 1 minute, I lose focus. I understand there is no focus hold on lens. What can I do to keep the focus on this lens from shifting. At first I thought it was a defective lens and traded back in for a new one. The same behavior occurs. Recently my first image was taken at 4:46 a.m.; my next image w/out touching focus, but turning off camera was taken at 5:01 and is totally soft. The prior new lens shifted focus working with an intervalometer…

  12. Just wondering if all focussing facilities esp tracking is available at 200mm with 2x coverter, i.e. 400mm f8. A7rIV body.

  13. Hello, I’m having an issue with the A9III when paired with the Sony 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM lens. In AF-S mode, everything works as it should. However, in AF-C mode during a football match, I experienced a problem. When I try to shift focus from one subject, like a player, to something further away like the stands—so making a significant change in focusing distance—it can take up to a second to refocus. I press the shutter halfway and sometimes have to wait almost a full second. When the subjects are relatively close to each other in distance, there's no major issue. But when I need to quickly refocus on someone much closer, the camera seems to pause for about a …

Hi Loking for part name or number for SEL18135 lens. Is a ring with red lens hood index dot nr 1. Thanks in advance.

  15. As the title suggests I'm looking for options similar too this lens. I have the Sony A7. I do landscape/bird/coastal/nature photography often in lower light conditions. Things I like about this lens - constant 2.8 aperture - in lens stabilizer -decent zoom ( longer would be better) -sharpness I have absolutely nothing against this lens, just that here in Canada this lens will run me close to $2000 I'm not opposed to going vintage, I have dumb adaptors for m42 and Pentax k mount. That being said I really would like to keep image stabilization as I hate tri pods. I currently have an old tamrom 70-300 tele macro…

  17. Hi guys, Looking for help. I put my lens on my a7r2 and the camera was doing an error-like beeping when I tried to shoot. I put it on my a6000 and the same result. Other lenses are fine so it's definitely the 85. This came out of nowhere. AFAIK nothing happened to the lens since I last used it. THanks!

  18. Hi all. My Haoge square hood is really misaligned when clicked fully into place on the 40mm f2.5. Has anyone else had this issue? Have tested on two bodies in case there was an issue with the lens mount but getting the same

  19. We will be taking a cruise from Tokyo to Vancouver with stops in Alaska. So I am looking to purchase a new lens to compliment my 70-200 2.8 GM OSS ll and possibly a Sony teleconverter. Recommendations greatly appreciated

  20. Hello all. I'm new to the Sony gene pool. I recently picked up an A7CR with the Sony 90mm OSS Macro lens. I find that I can't get IBS or lens stabilization to work when I switch the lens to Manual Focus mode using the sliding bayonet switch on the lens. I use the AF ON backbitten focus, and I get an error message when I activate the button in MF. The error message makes sense, but in other camera platforms, the IS still works. Is there any way to have the IS still work while the lens is in manual focus mode? I've searched and searched and can't find a way to make it work. Thanks

From about 1977 till the early 2000s, I would have categorized myself as a photography enthusiast. I don't remember ever hearing the term bokeh, though, at 71, my memory probably isn't perfect. Now that I'm getting back into photography, it's bokeh this and bokeh that. People talk about it like it's the holy grail, but descriptions of it sound like descriptions of dark matter or quarks or something. What the heck is it and why should I, as a landscape/nature photographer, care about it?

  22. I have the latest Sony 200-600 lens and am having trouble focusing on both my Alpha1 and A9III. I know others have had issues with focus with this lens. Has anybody else experienced issues with this lens with either of those bodies? Thanks!

  23. Started by Mr. Lips,

If I had a brain, I'd be dangerous. After buying four manual focus prime lenses, and being frustrated with not being able to zoom, I decided to give the 28-70 kit lens, I got with the a7 II, another try. I was quickly reminded why I went to manual focus lenses. That is, till I went in the menu and switched the kit lens to manual use. Functions were unlocked that aren't available with the full manual lenses I bought. I have the metering set to aperture priority. I have the focus area set to flexible spot. I think I must have focus assist set to auto. So, I can move the flexible spot around with the wheel on the back, and when I turn the …

  24. Hello, I have a question- I am totally new to Sony A7Rv and would like to know details about how to shoot in shutter priority with the FE 70-200 zoom lens. Since the physical setting of the aperture is on the lens, does the camera adjust it automatically or do I need to set the aperture myself on the lens based on what I see in the display?

  25. Started by Mr. Lips,

Speaking in generalities here, assuming the same focal length and quality, how does the optical performance of an f/1.4 lens set at f/3.5 compare to an f/3.5 lens set to f/3.5? I'm thinking that since the 3.5 lens is being shot wide open and the 1.4 lens is stopped down a little, the 1.4 lens might perform better at f/3.5. Thoughts?
