85 GMaster Causing Cameras to beep and not focus.

Hi guys,

Looking for help. I put my lens on my a7r2 and the camera was doing an error-like beeping when I tried to shoot. I put it on my a6000 and the same result. Other lenses are fine so it's definitely the 85. This came out of nowhere. AFAIK nothing happened to the lens since I last used it.

Things to try... 

The lens  may be tighter fit than your others, make sure it is fully locked in.

Make  sure the MF switch is turned off on the l lens.

check that you have the latest firmware for your camera and lens..

Hi,
The lens won't allow me to update the firmware at all. The issue is with the AF. It goes to the end of range without finding focus and then makes an error sounding obnoxious beep. It's like it's been damaged or something like that, but it looks fine.
I've had this lens since it was launched with zero issues. Cleaned all the contacts Since it's doing it on both bodies and my other FF Sony lens is fine, it's purely the lens.

Sony GM lenses are more suited to generation 3 of the A7 cameras , a friend found this out with his A7ii n 100-400 GM , when mounted on A7iii the results were very good .

I am having the same issue.  It beeps obnoxiously reaches aperture range both ways but no focus in manual or auto.  Did you find a solution other than sony repair shop?  Thanks! I am using lens with a9 Ver 6 and lens ver2.

Hello. Hopefully you'll get an answer from someone, but please note that the two people in the thread who've had the same trouble haven't been active here for several years.
