Beautiful resolving 35mm lens, hideous lens hood, what were Zeiss thunking of? it seems that they were trying to re invent the wheel when there was nothing wrong with the old one?

You cannot fit B&W filters inside it and Circular Polarisers, forget it? I guess the answer is to buy an aftermarket 49mm tread 35mm F/L hood

I lost my little hood too and haven't been able to find an affordable, suitable replacement.  A rubber 49 screw in vignetted.  Post if your search finds something cost effective that works.

I agree with you, with an emphasis on cost effectiveness? Here in the UK we still have some of the "old camera shops" and they tend to have a bargain bin which is where I hope to find one

Maybe you just don't need it. Very likely you don't.

You really shouldn't. 35/2.8 is a very conservative

spec. Zeiss is a very prestigious moniker. Your lens

should NOT need the hood.

----------------------------------------------------------

Nikon G-series is NOT prestigious. It's a consumer

grade series. A 10:1 wide-tele zoom ratio is NOT a

conservative spec. BUT !  Nikon's G-series 28-300

comes with a majestic looking hood that makes the

lens even larger-than-large so I tested it thoroughly

and scrupulously as to just how necessary its huge

hood might be. [And I REALLY know how to test ....

and test]. I found this lens to be so very ridiculously

immune to any and all problems that a hood should

prevent, that any hood is toadally unnecessary for it.

If Nikon can do THAT with a 10:1 consumer zoom,

then Zeiss should be able to do at least as well with

a 35/2.8 prime .... and if not, get rid of the lens.
