Silent setting on A7RII

I've noticed that sometimes the silent shutter setting on my A7RII will be completely silent when I take a picture (you literally don't hear anything when you click the shutter) and other times it will make a small, audible clicking sound. Does anyone else have this issue? I'm wondering if there's some other setting that occasionally interferes with "full" silent mode on the camera...

Does it happen with all lenses? Does it happen in all shooting modes?

 

My guess is it might be the iris changing in the lens. So it may sound different for various lenses. And it may be truly silent if you are shooting in Aperture preferred with Live view on. In this case, aperture never changes, so no iris movement, ergo no clicking noise.

Thanks, that's a great suggestion. It does sound a bit like the iris clicking down (and I've been shooting in Aperture priority mode when this happens).

My guess is that you're shooting in a mixed light situation, and that's the aperture opening and shutting so the sensor can properly expose for autofocus, then moving to the aperture that you've selected right before taking a shot.
