Manual Focus Assist

Recommended Posts

I like to use manual lenses more and more. I have "mauals focus assist - ON" to enlarge what is show in the viewfinder and after pressing a button the enlargement gets even higher.

I come to the conclusion that most of the time this higher enlargement is better to manual focus and I would prefer to come there directly. Is this possible?

assign a programable button to focus magnification

Missunderstandig, I have assigned   focus magnification to a programmable button. What I want is, that if I move the focus wheel on the lens, the viewfinder jumps to the most possible magnification (without pressing any button)

AFAIK, all native FE lenses will do this via a menu setting for A7ii (and A7rii), to the first zoom setting. Its not exactly what you want ... but its all you are going to get    :D

Adapted lenses, not sure if they also work, would depend on the adapter sending the right signals.

MF assist always starts out at the lesser

magnification. Sometimes I wish I could

set it to start immediately at maximum but

it's seldom any hassle to push the button

to get there ... with certain cameras you

can choose whichever button is best for

your personal quirks.

OTOH there are times when I'm happy

it starts out at the low magnification cuz

it's not always obvious, at maximum, just

what out-of-focus detail I'm targeting, as

imperfect focus looks pretty damnt fuzzy

at maximum magnification. The initially

wider [and less fuzzy] view helps me to

land on target.

Basically it's "just one of those things".
