O'hoy,

I just upgraded from 2.0 to 3.10 which was released not so long ago.

So far I can tell no real-world change in behaviour on either native or converted(Canon/Metabones) lenses.

Shout out if you notice something has improved. :)

Thanks for reporting no apparent changes,

which implies "no problems".

And thank you for starting this thread. I've

downloaded the update to my PC, to install

to the camera only after I've observed that

other users are experiencing no problems.

IOW I'm the opposite of an Early Adopter :-)

Soooo .... I'll keep watching this thread.

I have run the update to FW 3.10. I can not see any changes in my A7 II and i don´t expecting it. On the "Support page" Sony Germany is to read:

Infos zu diesem Download
  • Name: Systemsoftware Version 3.10 für ILCE-7M2 (Windows)
  • Erhältlich ab: 14/03/2016
  • Vorteile und Verbesserungen:
    • Diese Systemsoftware optimiert die Leistung neuer Objektive
    • (This system software to optimize the performance of new lenses)

We'll have to wait on the lenses GM series to any benefits from the upgrade to have!

  • 3 weeks later...

I've upgraded my A7 II to 3.10 firmware. No noticeable improvements, BUT now the phase detection "dancing points"  don't show anymore with either Sony Zeiss FE 24-70mm f4 lens or Sony FE 70-200mm f4 G  Also, when I set the AF area to "wide" it works same as the "zone" area!!

Strange is that the phase detection points appear ( and work OK )  when I mount the Sigma 150mm f2.8 HSM OSS Macro with the LA-EA3 adapter !!!

Please, any clues on what's happening?

Im not sure if its anything major, but i do feel that the continous autofocus feels a bit different. It may be placebo, but im guessing on slight AFC improvment vs 2.0.

For Janettebaillie, if you are still on pre 2.0, yes you should. From 2 to 3.1 its quite marginal id say.

The process itself is nothing to be afraid of.

    • This is just a quick and dirty first try composite from my efforts the other night attempting to capture the Full Lunar Eclipse. I will refine this and do a version with a foreground over the next week or so. The weather reports weren't good, as far as cloud cover went, so I was thinking I may not bother with it. The afternoon ended up being sunny and warmish with only the odd cloud here and there. I got my gear ready just in case. Sunset was just before 6:30 and after that I was checking the sky every half hour. Just around midnight I decided I would give it a go so I made some coffee and some sandwiches and headed off. So anyway, long story short, I had to brave the cold, the wind, a heavy dew, sea spray (the sea was quite rough and the tide was coming in fast) and quite a bit of cloud just after the full eclipse. Anyway, I'm pretty happy with this first attempt.

    • I'm going for it. Yeah, it's a superzoom that has all the typical traits of a superzoom, but that 20mm short end is too good to pass up. This lens has been rumored for a couple of years; I can't wait to get my hands on it. If it's any good I'll sell my 24-105, I don't need a fast lens for the planned use.
    • Help! I am leaving for a safari in a few days and need help setting up my Sony a6000 for the best wildlife shots. I also have a Tamron 70-300 lens. I'd really appreciate any suggestions for the best settings. Thanks in advance.
