Dummy battery issue

Recommended Posts

Can anyone advise.

I have bought a dummy camera for a A5000 and connected it to an external adjustable regulator. I measured the existing normal battery and its about 7.8v at 70% charge.

I adjusted the external regulator to the same 7.8v and the battery says 3% and keeps shutting down. The regulator is good for 1A which should be enough. Ive tried adjusting the regulator up and down a bit but it makes no difference.

Now there is a center pin on the battery which is probably a connection to the middle lipo and indeed the voltage in this pin is about 3.4 which is consistent with a single cell lipo.

I have checked inside the dummy battery and there is some circuitry supplying the middle pin, at about 2.8v. This could be the problem. The camera probably checks the charge level by the lowest of the 2 cells. 2.8v would be a very low lipo.

Have I bought a rubbish dummy battery?

Anyone else have this issue?
