I've always had trouble keeping "WiFi" download systems running correctly. Before I learn some bad habits I'd love to read some simply, clear instructions of how to run PlayMemories with my PC and ILCE-A7RM2. Van anybody herlp me with this or am I doomed to pulling out a card and using a card reader?

You can download by cable, but I'm worried about wearing out the micro usb socket.  I've ruined them on phones over time.

Really though, you should pull the card out and read it, because Playmemories doesn't transfer at the highest quality, and doesn't transfer raws.

If you aren't shooting in raw you're losing out on most of your image processing capabilities.

Considering the A7Rii is a generation older, the results for your camera may be worse.

You can safely ignore that. Both camera's WiFi is specified as having the same IEEE802.11 b/g/n capabilities.

Wifi transfer is only practical if you want to transfer a few jpegs to your phone to post on social media. If you want to transfer raws for serious processing, the card reader is the best option. Maybe it seems like a drag, but in reality it's faster and less fiddly than wifi transfers.

I keep one of these handy and sturdy readers in my camera bag: https://www.kingston.com/us/flash/readers/fcr-mlg4.
