A7r zoom magnification issue

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm new to this forum and am having an issue with manual focus and my A7R.  I've set C1 up with 0x - 7.2x - 14.4x zoom magnification but when I activate this sand zoom in to either 7.2x or 14.4x the magnification zoom only last for about 1 sec before reverting back to the 0x view.  This obviously doesn't give me enough time to accurately MF.  Does anyone have experience with this issue or know how to ensure that the zoomed in view is maintained until I have focussed and decide to exit the zoomed in view?

I'm running f/w 1.20 and metabones EF to E (mark IV) adapter with f/w 0.41.

Thanks in advance.

Nick

Hi,

can I assume you already set the menu voice for choosing focus magnification time to "No limit" (2nd menu, 1st page, 3rd voice from the top)?

If that's the case, then you might be experiencing a bad case of "contacts flu". It happened to me with a couple of chipped adapters when I used legacy lenses on a Canon 5D Mark II (using focus magnification in Live View).

Basically the contacts of the adapter and the ones on the camera are not properly aligned, or they just move ever so slightly when you handle the lens or something like that, and so the camera "reverts" to its normal state (i.e. no magnification). If I'm right you should probably contact Metabones for a repair or a replacement under warranty (assuming it is not expired).

To be absolutely sure you might try to magnify the focus using a "dumb" (i.e. without contacts) adapter; if the problem persists you have a faulty A7r, if it goes away then the culprit is the Metabones.

    • So I can confirm that it works! A5000 was left without battery for about 2 days, then I put the battery back and all the buttons are alive! This is most strange debug I've ever used, but thank you for the tip!
    • I just found your post as I was searching for an answer to the same question.  I realized that I can not set the external flash setup in my Sony A7CII when I attach any of my Godox and Insignia flashes.  They seem to work fine, other than the auto zoom being stuck at the widest focal length, but flash settings are greyed out in the menu. Did you ever figure out an answer for this?
    • So long story short, I'm at a crossroads and need to unload some gear. My main cam is a A7R3. I also lucked into a Fuji GFX100s a few years ago. Because of some upcoming things, I really need to sell some stuff. I could sell the old Pentax kit, but can't bring myself to. On the other end, I don't want to get rid of the Fuji either. What I'm thinking is sell both the Fuji kit and my A7R3, get an A7R5 and call it a day. I get a camera that really bridges most of the gaps between my current Sony & the Fuji's capabilities. Yeah I loose some stuff from the Fuji, but I'd also be slimming down to one lens ecosystem.  I'd keep the Pentax as there are things I specifically use it for. I can't bring myself to pull the trigger and go the R5 route & life with out the 102mp medium format. Thoughts or other options? My photography: mostly night photography, b&w and minitatures (yeah, Star Wars type stuff.) And landscapes, something bothe the Pentax & Fuji do really well with. If I got rid of the Fuji and upgrade fropm the R3, I pocket lots of needed cash and still have something that checks alot  of the boxes the Fuji does.
