Just bought both of these with the thought of trying them out as a potential 2nd body/lens combo to augment an A7II + 24-70 2.8 for event shooting (carrying both).

Just wondering if the lens only stabilization is any use at all?  Events mean moving around fast and not being as stabilized physically as a formal portrait shoot - so there is some concern it's just going to be a bit sloppy.

Coming from a history of using Sony's SSS on full frame A Mounts, (which works well) just want to make sure I'm carrying the right camera/lens combo for the job.  Or should I ditch the A6000 and get another A7xx with IBIS?

Anyone take any zoom photos while in motion (a bit) with the 24-240?

Lens-based IS works very well.

It works in my 18-55 and 55-210mm

E-mount Sony zooms.

It also works in my non-sony 28-300.

----------------------------------------------

The value of IBIS is that it doesn't limit

your selection of lenses, and some of

your lenses can be a bit smaller [cuz

some but not all IS lenses bulk out vs

similar non-IS lenses].

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Surely, somewhere there are lab tests

proving which system works best with

different shooting contexts. Or maybe

proving that IS lenses always show an

optical flaw cuz some of the glass isn't

anchored down on-center. Unless the

events you shoot are held in test labs,

you don't hafta consider all that stuff ;-)

Thanks - the camera arrived today and I was able to shoot a little with this combo, and it seemed OK in good light but did have some misses probably more to do with getting the right AF zone setup.  Also figuring out where the 24-240 is sharp (or soft) at different focal lengths and apertures.   All in all it seems to pack a lot of punch for such a little camera.

After having the big Zeiss 24-70 2.8 on my A7II - this lens seems small and light and the camera is a mini digital back.  Makes me think long and hard about selling off my RX10.
