  1. Hi, I'm middle of nowhere in Philippines and my reliable Sony FE 24-240 f3.5-6.4 broke down. Apparently the aperture motor broke down. The problems are: - Camera body (Sony A7sII) does not show aperture (only briefly it comes up to show aperture number and disappears again) - No control of aperture in camera - Aperture stuck in smallest (~f36) - Strange ticking sound inside the lens when attached to body - Focusing works semiok. Probably the camera has problems with lowlight since the aperture is locked at minimum diameter). I have tried: - I have cleaned the contacts - No physical damage can be seen in the lens Other lenses work fine with the body (Sony FE 55 f.18) so the problem must be in lens. Have you guys experienced similar problems with Sony FE lenses??? Anyway to fix it on your own? I either have no time to sit in a major city for several weeks waiting for it to get fixed by Sony Service center.... if that's not the only choice. I'm really desperate since I'm on my once in lifetime around the world trip. Thanks guys.
  2. Just bought both of these with the thought of trying them out as a potential 2nd body/lens combo to augment an A7II + 24-70 2.8 for event shooting (carrying both). Just wondering if the lens only stabilization is any use at all? Events mean moving around fast and not being as stabilized physically as a formal portrait shoot - so there is some concern it's just going to be a bit sloppy. Coming from a history of using Sony's SSS on full frame A Mounts, (which works well) just want to make sure I'm carrying the right camera/lens combo for the job. Or should I ditch the A6000 and get another A7xx with IBIS? Anyone take any zoom photos while in motion (a bit) with the 24-240?
  3. For about five weeks I have been the owner of my first Sony still camera, the A7RII. I feel a bit like the Austrian emperor in the 'Amadeus' movie, who complained (about Mozart's compositions) of 'too many notes'. I complain of 'too many buttons' and 'too many menu options'. I am still learning, and I love it. My main lens is the FE 24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS, a 10x superzoom. I have been a bit reluctant of buying a superzoom as I was afraid the quality would be disappointing. I was even thinking of using a new Canon EOS 25-105mm IS, my old one having been stolen. But reading some tests of the 24-240 encouraged me. Here are some results. The first two were shot on a sunny afternoon. Both in Amsterdam, Neth.. The first one at ISO 500, 1/3200 F5.6 87mm Number two: ISO 500 F5.6 24mm Number three on a rainy day in Diemen (heavily overcast, drizzle): ISO 5000, 1/125 F8.0 240mm All handheld, no post-processing. Conclusion: the image quality is a pleasant surprise! Kind regards, Freddy
