sixjewells
HI Everyone Feeling really stupid right about now. My daughter purchased a Sony a6000 camera yesterday. i went today to purchase a memory card for her (picked up a Lexar Pro 64GB SDXC 150MB/s) and we keep getting an error message that the card is not compatible. I tried inserting a few of my cards Sandisk and Promaster, all of which "Class 10" What are we doing wrong? Thanks

lemmor_m
Can you be specific what is the exact error you are getting or a screenshot of the error
dbmiller
Hmmmm... UHS-II vs UHS-I maybe? I thought UHS-II was compatible with UHS-I at lower speeds, but maybe there's a glitch in either Lexar's or Sony's implementation.
Omniabsent
Hey! interesting to hear this as I also have issues with this setup. I also have an a6000 and recently picked up the Lexar Prof 1000x 64gb card. Where exactly do you get the messages about incompatibility? I do not get the messages, but pretty often the camera just refuses to read/write from the card (at least it seams so), the red lamp write indicator remains on for ages. Turning on/off helps but after all it is very unreliable for me to use the card.

Thanks If the Sandisk card is working then I would return the Lexar Pro and pick up a new sandisk instead. Someone else on the board had issues with a Lexar card as well, maybe there is a quality control problem.
Golem
There's no reason to use these ultra speed cards. The camera does not write anywhere near that fast. Learn to read the packaging. The big numbers on the front of the package is the "read speed" aka "transfer speed". In the [extra-] fine print on the reverse side of the package, look for the "write speed". It's not always given, but when it is shown, it's anywhere from 25% to 60% of the "read speed". Various cameras write at speeds from about 25 to 65 MPS. Most users do NOT benefit from SDXC over SDHS cards. Acoarst nobody HERE wants to believe that they're just one more of "most users". And most [maybe more than "all"] sales associates will tell you that a faster speed on the front side of the package means your camera will run faster. I heard it again merely hours ago ! But I did not, and will not, correct them. Thaz just pissin into the wind.
Omniabsent
@Golem: So how exactly is this helping with our problem? I took this card because it wasn't significantly more expensive and I don't wanna get in to trouble at any point because I wanted to save $5 when buying a memory card. I'm computer scientist who likes hardware, I know the numbers. You're right with what you are saying, it just doesnt fit into this thread because I do not see how this makes my card more reliable. Golem
There apparently IS a congenital problem: https://community.sony.com/t5/Alpha-SLT-DSLR-Cameras/Formatting-64-gb-sdxc-class-10-in-a6000-fails-and-goes-back-to/td-p/351590# My particular a6000 formats cards with no problems. But I use 32gig SanDisk SDHC cards not of any great remarkable speed ratings. I use several different cameras which, statistically, ought to set me up for a failure in at least one of them. None of them has ever seen a firmware update. I do use a 64gig card in an A7M2, but all the others use 16 and 32gig SDHC cards.
