Odd Noise from a6000

Recommended Posts

Hi there

Please see the attached JPG file. The lense is the Sony 35mm 1.8. (ISO 200, f13, 1/250)

I shot the image in RAW as well and the noise/dust is also present on the high-res pic. Is this kind of dust normal in the mirrorless world?

Or is this not dust but something else potentially wrong with the camera/sensor?

Hi Skipperw,

How often do you use a blower when changing lens? To me it looks like dust on the sensor/ back lens element combined with a small aperture (high f-number).

One rarely need to go beyond f8 for normal photography, and in this shot a higher shutter speed would have been better to get the right exposure.

A rule of tumb is that the higher the the f-number the more you will reveal dust in the light path. Try to shoot at a white wall or a bright sky at the highest possible f-number and see the horrifying result.  This is just something we photographers have to deal with. Use a blower when changing lenses and use an appropriate f-number.

By any chance were you at the beach and changed lenses? That looks suspiciously like saltwater particulate. Basically droplets of saltwater carried by the breeze and deposited on top of your sensor.

It is not the end of the world, but a simple blower will not get rid of them: you'll need a wet cleaning, probably multiple passes
