Will any flash with older mount (am) + adapter for multi flash mount will work in ttl mode for my A7. And will a HVL-60M will trigger wireless with the flash option "wireless" mode in the a7 or a really need an other sony flash to send the signal ?

Sony's older flashes (AM) used with the right AM to MI adapter will give TTL on your A7. Sony's implementation of wireless flash is an optical approach that requires one unit on the camera to control the off-camera unit(s). The least expensive "controller" flash is the HVL-20M.

I think I am totally missing something regarding wireless (off-camera) flash with my A7R. I have two HVL-36AMs and the older Minolta 3600. I just bought a new HVL-43M to use as the control flash. I can not get it to activate any of these flashes via my A7R. All four flashes work fine including the new 43M as remotes when activated by my Sony A65. I have tried any and every configuration I can think of. Either I am totally missing something or my A7R or the 43M needs repairs.... any help greatly appreciated! BTW, the Sony manuals seem to be POS when it comes to wireless flash.

I've just got the Nissin i70 Air and commander (bought on the back of my experience of the Nissin i40) and am very happy.

It's not perfect, but is very, very good. The only main complaint is the manual is absolute pants!

I also bought the Nissin Di700A with Air commander. It's working very nicely so far with my A7m2 and A6000. The poor manual is not a problem because there are many videos on YouTube showing how to set up and use this kit. So far I have not been able to find a flash diffuser specifically for this unit. If anyone has found one let me know!

HVL-F43M or HVL-F60M can control in WL and if you use ratio lighting, you can tell the control flash to use zero lighting so there will only be pre-flash and stop flash command being issued by this on-camera flash control flash

HVL-F20M and HVL-F32M ( or any basic flash that can do WL control ( older shoe HVL-F20AM ) will actually flash during exposure.

The HVL-F43M and 60M (or older shoe with adapter HVL-F43AM or HVL-F58AM) all have what is called ratio control for 2 or 3 groups ( if you have older Minolta/Sony flashes not mentioned here (Minolta 3600HS(D), 5600HS(D), Sony HVL-F36AM F42AM, F56AM) , you can only create 2 groups ) and the control flash is considered Group 1 where you can specify a ratio of ZERO so it does not contribute to the exposure. But you have to change an advanced setting for this to work this way since most people want all of their expensive flashes to participate to exposure in most circumstances.

All other basic flash controllers (HVL-F20M or AM or HVL-F32M) do not have this capability

Don't complain that this becomes a very expensive control unit but it is part of the advanced features you get when buying more advanced (expensive) equipment. Since only a minority of people will require or use this kind of feature, this is why it is not in the basic equipment features.

Where are you around Montreal ? Maybe we could meet and i could show you.

I got one of these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Silicone-Bounce-Diffuser-Yongnuo-Speedlight/dp/B00Q5H31QM

also available via ebay:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Silicone-White-Flash-Light-Bounce-Dome-Diffuser-for-Nikon-Canon-Sony-Nissin-/301407921368

and it works pretty well.

I believe the Stofen Omni-bounce OM-EZ (which is the same for the Sony HVL-F60M) also fits, but can't confirm it. Certainly the Nissin Di700 is listed on their site under that model, although you will need to verify if there are any dimension changes between the latest and previous models. I think it is just the electronics that have changed.

NOTE: The HVL-20M will not contribute to the exposure when the off-camera flash it controls is in HSS mode!
