Sony A9 II not displaying images on the screen

I must have inadvertently changed something in that in the past, the last photo shot was always displayed on the screen and I could scroll through my shoot.  Now I get the message "Unable to display," and when starts trying to find photos there are just a bunch of squares with question marks.  The photos are in fact on the SD card and can be downloaded and processed.  What can I do to change this?

Try different card or reset to factory settings. You can save your custom setting to memory card first.

For some reason, it has started showing the photos again after two days of not doing so.
