just to quote from Sonyalpharumors: "Sony Electronics, a worldwide leader in digital imaging and the world’s largest image sensor manufacturer, has today announced user selectable Compressed and Uncompressed 14-Bit RAW image capture will be featured in the new α7S II once it arrives in stores this October.

Additionally, they have announced plans to add user selectable compressed or uncompressed 14-Bit RAW still image capture via firmware update to additional cameras beginning with the recently introduced
.

“The voice of our α community remains the most important guiding force of our product development plans,” said Neal Manowitz, Deputy Vice President for Digital Imaging at Sony Electronics. “The addition of Uncompressed 14-Bit RAW processing is a direct result of customer feedback. Widely requested by photo and video enthusiasts, we believe the choice of RAW processing types will further elevate the performance of these extraordinary cameras.”

The α7S II and α7R II are compatible with Sony’s growing lineup of α -mount lenses, which now totals 63 different models including 12 native ‘FE’ full frame lenses.
By early 2016, Sony will add an additional 8 new lenses to its FE full frame lineup
, bringing the FE total to 20 lenses and the overall α -mount assortment to over 70 different models.

Wow! That’s a huge news! And as I reported yesterday the new FE lenses will be announced right before the Photoplus start in October! Expect new 24-70m GM, fast prime lens, telephoto len, 21mm FE Loxia and more.

And I can’t wait to see how much difference the 14BIT will make on my Sony A7rII! Thanks Sony for listening to your customers!

  • 4 weeks later...

Congratulations to Diglloyd for his campaign to get 14 bit files for the Sony 7 series cameras.

Oddly posts or membership details for a "Diglloyd" didn't produce any results on this forum...perhaps he or she moved on or your reference is to some other forum?

As you referred to this person, it would be good to find this campaign and see this announcement in context?

    • I have a slight problem with my A7Riii connected with the auto-focussing. Occasionally it will not auto-focus at all and the image remains out of focus. Checking the FN function the focusing tab is greyed out and if I persevere it will say 'This lens not compatible or not connected' etc.  I have to remove the lens and refit it, making sure I push the lens hard.  This happens with all my lens so I suspect it is the camera. I examine the contacts, cleaned them all and examined the mount etc but all seems fine.  Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if it is fixable.
    • My Sony z7iii Camera sometimes sits for long periods (weeks) in its camera bag. I began having the problem of the camera 'forgetting' the date & time when I'd power the camera on. I learned that the internal ('real time clock') battery only gets charged when : 1.) The camera is turned-on (with the regular battery in the 'battery well') as when the camera is being used or 2.) When the camera is turned-off and a fully charged 'regular' battery is in the camera's 'battery well' and the external charge cable is plugged-in (and connected to the AC charger) (Typically I've found that the tiny  amber 'charging' LED comes on for a brief period when the external charger is first plugged-in but then it goes off. Apparently it is only then that the internal battery starts to be charged ... when the amber LED goes off.) When I looked into the situation I found that I was not the only person having the problem. Other a7iii owners had asked how to charge the internal battery and then Sony explained to leave the camera plugged into the charger for at least 24 hours. (I don't believe that this is covered in the Owner's Manual.) I have managed to charge-up the internal battery (at least enough such that the date & time is maintained for awhile) but I now question if 24 hours is long enough ? In late June (2025) I left my a7iii Camera plugged into the external charger for several days and 6 weeks later the camera still remembered the date & time (though the clock's accuracy isn't all that good) Does anyone have any evidence as to how long the a7iii needs to be plugged into the external charger to fully charge (as when the camera came from the factory) the internal battery ? • a7RCII weirdness: Yesterday, after a few normally saved shots, my a7rcii began to record 3 identical images for each exposure I took. These were not bracketed in any way, all shot in AF-S mode, just 3 identical files with the expected sequential filenames. The metadata for each is the same except for the filename. Any ideas about what's up with this? I'll check the camera again later today.
