So while having my A7r3 serviced my wife told me to grab a new body so we would always have a spare .  I picked up a A9ii and shot a few lacrosse games with it .  Loved the camera  super fast accurate and  just what I expected it would be .  Mind you its now 2 months old ......So Im at Lacrosse last week, the camera is on a shouulder sling screwed into the 100-400 GM  foot. I raise the camera to shoot and theres no shutter release button there . Just the on/off toggle and a hole . I have taken less than 500 pics with this one smh.  Im not knocking  Sony, my A7r3 has over 250k with no issues at all . Love it .  This new one though iis not off to a good start .

Has anyone else ever heard of this type of thing ?

Sent it off to precision Camera fro repair  so dont ask for any pics of the hole . It just looked like inside of a dish with a smaller hole in the center

Been doing some inquiring about how that could occur. The only explanation I have gotten was that the button is an aluminum cap that is epoxied to a metal stem and  has several taper points that anchor in that receptacle.  If there is no stem present in the housing it may have failed at one of this tapers in the rod. From hanging upside down it could have worked its way out and fell while the camera was hanging.  Ah well I get to shoot football this weekend with the A7r3 while I wait, thank God I have 128 GB cards.

Well the A7R3 is a complete different animal in terms of AF. So good luck while shooting football with it!

Coming back to the A9M2, well every product can fail somehow but of course it should not happen with the top of the line product at all. Will be interesting to see how long it will take them to fix it.

It's not likely they have a stock of buttons laying about for such an odd problem. Unless they cannabalize one from an abandoned or unrepairable camera it may take time to source one up. More likely they'll replace the mechanism as an entity instead of the sole missing 'hub cap'.
