Fullframe lenses for my a6000

I have the Sony 55-210 F4.5-6.3. It's an okay multi-use lens, but want to upgrade and looking at the following fullframe lenses. Which, if any, would you recommend? I shoot wildlife, scenery, and people at variable distances in nature and at events. I'm looking for a good balance of quality and versatility. It would be most helpful if anyone can make comparisons between two or more of these.

Sony FE 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 G
Sony FE 24-240mm f/3.5-6.3
Sony FE 70-200mm f/4 G

Thank you in advance.

I currently own the 70-300 & the 24-240. I used to own the 70-200.

For full-frame A7xx it's tough to beat the 10X zoom, 24-240 as a general purpose lens! However, for my APS-C A6300 my general purpose lens is the PZ 18-105G. I can't say enough good things about that lens!

I opted for the 70-300 over the 70-200 because of the extra reach and similar IQ. The 70-300 also is better for close focus work. I use a Sigma magnifier that gets it even closer, so much so that my FE 90macro is gathering dust.

I agree with "Al Pha" that the E PZ 18-105 G is a wonderful lens for general purpose for APS-C. For wildlife, events etc. the FE 70- 300 G is more versatile compared to the FE 70-200 G. The performance differences are not substantial in my opinion. For me was decisive, the better close focus of the FE 70-300 G. To the FE 24-240, I can not make any statements. But it should not be better than the above-mentioned lenses.

Note: You may get problems with these relatively heavy lenses on the weak bayonet of the Alpha 6000. I had such problems. The Alpha 6300, which has a stronger bayonet, does not give these connection problems!

I have the FE 24-240mm and love it, it lives on my a6000! It is slightly heavy, but honestly I am completely used to it, and don't notice in the slightest. I got it before the 70-300 came out, so I didn't compare the two options, and for wildlife I wanted more reach than 200mm. I sold my kit lens and the 55-210 when I got the SEL24240 and never regretted it. One of the biggest pluses is that I don't really ever need to change lenses, although I have others. 90% of the time the 24-240 is perfect. The IQ is great (check out some of the Flickr groups on it) and it is really well built. The camera mount hasn't had any problems in the year that lens has been living on the camera (and I hang it from a capture clip quite a bit) but there has been a small amount of play between the lens and the body since day one, never been a problems though.

I can't really find a downfall for the lens, once you get used to the weight difference between it and the 55-210 you will never think about it. Since the a6000 is a crop sensor the minimum depth of field is closer to that of an f/5, but I still feel that I get nice background blur when I want to (and it is slightly faster than the other two you are looking at, at least at the wide end). For wildlife it is really nice to have a 360mm equivalent that uses the center of the lens (the nicest part anyway).

I also have (and love) the SEL10-18, which matches up well with the 24-240. For a fun wildlife experience, I also have the Sigma 150-600mm with the Sigma MC-11 converter--works like a native FE lens and is really fun!

Hi!

I am a bit late, I guess. Have you already bought the 18-105?

I do have it fitted on my A6000. Although it is a crop sensor lens, it is useful on my A7RII too. That is because that full frame camera shoots 4K video in crop sensor mode (Super 35) better than when full frame. So this cheap but very good quality lens is my first option when I switch to video mode. It is a great choice and I guess that the 70-300 is a great complement to it, although I don't have it (a own the great 70-200 f/4). All these lenses may endure any future evolution on camera bodies that you may dare.

    • I'd opt for a small zoom, but I must admit that there seems to be a dearth of lenses in the e-mount in the 24-50mm range -- for some reason.  I have a small 24-70mm, but that's an a-mount Tamron.  Maybe you can find something by looking at lenses slightly longer.  I have a heavy, but small 24-100mm a-mount, and Tokina made a 24-200mm a-mount.  Maybe there are similar lenses in the e-mount.  Kill three birds with one stone.
    • I recently got an a7cii and to pair with the compact body, I thought of getting 2 of the trio compact lenses, 24mm F2.8 and 40mm F4.0. (I already have a 70-200mm) However I stumbled upon the newly released 24-50mm F2.8 G. I'm not sure which to get - I like the small factor of the prime lenses ON the body because it's discreet and helps me blend in as an average tourist / doesn't make it obvious when doing street. But if I add the dimensions of the 2 primes together, it takes up more space in the bag than the zoom lens. BUT THEN, the weight of the 2 prime lenses is 110g lesser than the zoom lens. The zoom lens has the added benefit of being more versatile.   So now I'm stumped. Each has their pros and cons and I can't decide which to get. I'd like to hear the views of you guys who are more experts at this.   Edit: I'm a bit concerned about weight because the last time I went overseas my shoulders were aching from carrying too much. Which is why I was looking for small compact primes in the first place.
    • Hi, I have got a6300 which shutter stopped working. I managed to change shutter but unfortunatelly broke shutter motor tape but I fixed that. After repair the shutter is working but not in a proper way, watch with sound. I bought the second shutter and tried to test it before dissaembling again and it doesn't react to magnet but it works fine when I apply 3V. Are there different type of shutter for a6000 - a6400? Back to the question what is wrong with my shutter after first repair? I don't want to put next shutter unfoundedly. Do your sony cameras perform such a self-check after start up?  IMG_5579 (1).webm
