Just bought the a7 III and the standard 24-105 f/4 lens. Love it!

But ... as a wedding photographer I need a few fast primes. Of course I'll purchase the Sony 85mm f/1.8. But now I need to decide on a fast / wide lens. I've narrowed down to 3 lenses.

Zeiss Batis 35mm f/2.0 (great corner to corner lens)

Sony Zeiss fe 35mm f/1.4 (fast but not a sharp at the corners as the Zeiss 35 f/2.0)

Sony 24mm f/1.4 G Master (hasn't been release yet)

All are great choices ... for you that shoot weddings which would you lean toward.

Part of me leans towards waiting for the new 24mm as the reviews seem solid.

What say you ....

The 55 1.8 zeiss is amazing, I would consider that lens for sure, certainly for indoors. And in stead of prime I would consider the 16-35. If you have money to burn the f/2.8 and otherwise the f/4.  Both are amazing.  The new 24 is still an unknown, but it's going to be g master, so I would bet that's a candidate.

I'm wanting 'speed'  ... big difference between f/2.8 and f/1.4.

I would agree for those that are OK with f/2.8 the 16-35 is good. The f/4 version is to slow for what I'm thinking and it's near as good as the f/2.8 from what I gathered.

No use for the 55. I very rarely used my 50mm f/1.4 Canon when I had it unless it was very dark and I didn't have a flash ready to go. The 55mm is to tight for getting ready photos of the bride.

Thanks for the response.

Hi! I just got the Sony A7III too. Would you recommend the 24-105 as a good starter lens? I'm considering this and the 55mm f1.8 as main options.

It's a good walk around lens and for the ceremony I'll use it along with my second body which has a long lens on it.

During the prep time for the bride I see myself primarily using the 35mm

For the posed shots I'll use the 24-105 for large groups but move the the 35 and the 85 for the romantic creamy background shots of the B&G

During the reception and the toast I'll probably use the 24-105

Dances, cake cut and throws I'll use the 35mm

Now the Zony 55mm is not at all the same as the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4. The Zony you can actually shoot full open and with the exact focusing and the smooth boked your pictures will be beautiful. People see stuff through different 'lenses' of their mind. You are right you need something shorter for interior shots. I ordered the Samyang 35mm f/2.8. Not expensive. Light and compact. Counting on the fantastic Sony sensor.
