How bad would a Nikon 50mm 1.4d be on an A7RII?

Recommended Posts

Maybe, as you said, "How bad would a Nikon

50mm 1.4d be on an A7RII?" very truly "Title

says it all". IOW, since you already express

negative expectations, the results, at least by

your own standards, will prolly disappoint.

Answers to "How bad" would be "Really bad",

"Pretty bad" or, at best, "Not too bad". OTOH

if the question, most likely from a different

user, had been "how to get best results" from

such a lens on a hi-rez digital camera, then

the frame of reference would be more open

to the positive.

FWIW, I'd put a 50/1.4d on an A7R2 without

hesitation. The results would no doubt serve

various purposes. YMMV ... prolly will.

Much older Nikon lens which tests worse than even the newer Nikon 1.8g ... realism limits the amount of "positive" that I have from that combination but I'd hoped someone had tried it and could give (subjective) feedback.  /shrug

Thanks.

I hear ya ... and here's two positive ideas:

1. Post in the full frame lenses forum, or the
legacy lenses forum, instead of the full frame
cameras forum, even tho it is your particular
model of camera that raises the question.

It may not require an A7R2 user to inform you.
What if you receive multiple replies saying that
it's marginal even on a basic A7-2 ? That tells

you all you need to know even if no A7R2 user

replies. A7-2 users are a bigger population. It

may [or may not] be worth hearing from them.

2. Ditch the "How Bad" for something neutral
like "50/1.4 Nikkor on A7R2, any experience ?"

To some users, a lens may be "pretty good" if

it looks good at f/5.8 or 8. And maybe they've

used it for 20 years before putting it on a new

A7R2, which now teaches them to forget about

shooting at wider stops. Yet they may continue

to rank that old lens as "pretty good" [for them].

IOW "How Bad..." just doesn't speak to them.

Just my thoughts ......
