A7Sii going black while in 4k

Anyone elses A7sii viewfinder going black when hitting record in 4k and my smallhd dp4 monitor immediately disconnects connection with camera.... doesnt do this when in 1080 recording just 4k

Same here if I use a HDMI monitor. Its annoying and a shock when you first see this. I did not realize its only in 4K but I did not intend to shoot in 1080p except for slo-mo.

I'm experiencing this same problem - when shooting 4K and have an external HDMI monitor connected (SmallHD 502), the camera's back screen goes blank (info still displayed but no image). Is there any way we can report this to Sony?

Dont mean to hijack this thread but I've experienced the same thing lastnight with my A7ii, LCD and the viewfinder was completely black and I'm just taking pictures?.. I wonder if the adapter commlite (using tamron ef lens) was the culprit? Total let down on our shoot with a model.

Yup! same problem... Found a very interesting quirk to it as well: If you turn on the "Dual Video REC" and hit record, it will switch (the monitor plugged into HDMI will go black, and the A7S II screen doesn't... Strange, and definitely needs to be fixed by Sony!

Any one ever find a resolution to this. I get the same problem when sending time code and using A7Rii as a record control for a Tascam 701D. Makes the record trigger useless as I can't monitor video anymore.

If the A7sII is set up properly, I had no problem viewing and recording with an external 7Q+.

But this "UpGrade" was such a disappointment that I sent it back and still look for something better than my A7s.

I shoot 4K internal and monitor in HD with no problem but settings have to be right in HDMI output.

Camera HDMI outputs are not labeled with enough detail.

 

When shooting:

1080p23.98 HDMI progressive output is 1080p23.98

1080p25 HDMI progressive output is 1080p50 (so many monitors can't see it)

1080p25 HDMI interlaced output is 1080i50

2160p25 HDMI progressive 4K output is 2160p25 (so most monitors can't see it)

2160p25 HDMI progressive HD output is 1080p50 (so many monitors can't see it)

2160p25 HDMI interlaced HD output is 1080i50

Tip. Force it to output interlaced. Unless you are using an external 4K recorder.
