First, give the camera a good cleaning, then do the usual trick of removing the battery and leaving the camera aside for a few days. -
I transitioned from Nikon DSRL to Sony for weight reasons, but I still use my Nikon equipment when bulk and weight are not an issue. The main issue was learning a new menu system, i.e. knowing what to do but not knowing where the option to do it was.

I would recommend the zoom. I am a prime fan and I still use them in my non-Sony equipment, but when travelling I prefer to have zooms because of convenience and not having to change lens over and over. Usually I add a small fast prime for some night shots.
