  1. Hi all, I'm in the market for a Sony A7, but am having trouble deciding on which to use based on my application. My primary hobby is my saltwater reef tank, so that will be the primary subject of the camera but I'd still like to bring it with me on trips and take pictures of my other animals and such. I'm intending to get the macro FE 90mm f/2.8-22 lens down the line too. My main question is, is there a huge difference between the II, III, & IV for my purposes? I've read the III is much better than the II, but I've also read the same about the III to IV. I'm sort of between buying a II body and the Macro lens, or just getting a III or IV with an included lens. I know the III has much better video, which would be nice to have too. Any input is greatly appreciated!
  2. Hello everybody! I have an issue with my Sony A7iii. When I shoot at a high ISO (20000 and upwards) my camera produces images with strange line noise patterns (see image below). This is especially annoying since it's hard to fix in post and just looks plain ugly. This effect only occurs in dark areas of the image so it makes low light photography, especially outside at night, pretty much impossible. One thing me and my friend found out is that it has something to do with RAW compression (or lack there of). When compression is off, these artifacts occur, whereas when it is on, the striping is gone but the overall image is a little less sharp and more grainy. But the strange thing is, the striping does not happen at all with my friends's camera (identical body and lens). So maybe there is an issue with the sensor? I am seriously at a loss here, any advice would be appreciated. Some additional info: When comparing, we used the exact same camera settings and I use mechanical shutter.

  4. Does anyone else have an issue with excessive spotting on photos with their mirrorless camera? I have a Sony Alpha a7 iii used mainly with a single E-mount G-series lens with a Hoya DMC UV filter... But in recent months I've noticed that I am editing out dozens of spots from marks - on the lens or perhaps from the camera. I've tried cleaning the filter, the lens, blowing out dust from the other end of the lens/inside camera but a lot of these marks/spots remain. I rarely change lenses. I previously used Canon DSLR cameras & lenses and never had the problem to the extent I am having now. Any ideas? Is this a 'feature' of mirrorless cameras??
