  1. Please excuse me if this post is reposted a few times but I cannot seem to get my posting posted. So I keep trying Anyway, my A7R II is going off AUTO ISO and into ISO 50. I noticed this as my shutter speed will suddenly become extra slow while I am shooting. Other settings I have made include setting the minimum shutter speed to either 1/125 or 1/250. I don't like the camera to set the shutter speeds for me. I wonder if there is a bug which triggers this problem. I usually like to change FOCUS MODE and FOCUS AREA as I shoot. For some reason, some setting is triggering the camera to go off AUTO ISO. Does anyone have this same problem? I am running the latest firmware. Thanks you.
  2. Hi people. I'm getting a strange behaviour on my A7R II. I am running the latest firmware. When I am set to AUTO ISO, for some reason, it'll go off that setting and end up at ISO 50 at times. I'd be shooting and notice that the shutter speeds are suddenly very slow as the camera has gone off the AUTO ISO setting. Has anyone had this problem? I am not sure whether it's a combination of other factors involved. Are any of the Auto Focus or Focus Area settings linked to Auto ISO? Thanks for any advice or confirmation if this is indeed a problem affecting others. Thanks.
  3. Hi, First post for me. I am contemplating switching to Sony, and have my eyes set on a used A7R II or a A7R III (if it comes out in a couple of months). I have been a Canon user for nearly 7 years and currently using the 5D3. I mainly do landscapes, street photography, and family events. Lenses I use the most in descending order: 16-35 f2.8, 70-200 f2.8, 50 f1.2, 24-70 f2.8. I am looking to replace these lenses with it's Sony equivalent or anything as close as possible. My reason for switching is reducing weight, and amount of space it takes up in my backpack. Can anyone here (especially former Canon users) shed some light if the size and weight while using the mirrorless system or it's (lens especially) made a big difference? Or are the sony equivalent lenses feel the same as Canon's version in terms of size, weight and balance?
  4. Yesterday, I took my relatively new Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM (Contemporary) out for test shooting at a collegiate baseball game yesterday (in Stockton, CA - the West Coast Conference Championship Tourney). This was my first sporting event with the lens. I started with the "silent shutter mode" - left that way from earlier photo sessions. I noticed distortion - see bat detail shown in photo below. When I restored the shutter mode to "normal", the distortion appears to go away. FYI - the Sigma lens and adapter firmware is up-to-date. Compare the two images - do you have any idea as to what might be causing this issue? --------------------- Distorted photo settings: 1/1600 sec f/6.3 ISO 400 361 mm Camera: Sony A7R II Lens: Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM (Contemporary) - Canon Mount Lens Adapter: Sigma MC-11 Shutter: Silent Mode ----------------- Normal photo settings: 1/1600 sec f/6.3 ISO 400 374 mm Camera: Sony A7R II Lens: Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM (Contemporary) - Canon Mount Lens Adapter: Sigma MC-11 Shutter: Normal Single Shot Mode
  5. I'm planning on picking up a Sony A7R II with a Sony 35MM Distagon lens. I tracked down a store that has a great price on the camera+lens but the only concern I have is that the camera may be an initial production run, or very close to it. The camera is in stock but the owner of the store told me that I have the option of waiting until early Dec to get a new production camera if I want. There are a great deal of Christmas events coming up and I use my cameras for shooting family pictures so I'd rather not wait. I'm also concerned that the early Dec arrival date for a newer production camera may not occur since delays are quite common. Are there any issues with the initial production run of the A7R II? I've read about a few issues here and there regarding some problems but most of them seem to be issues that may eventually be fixed via a firmware update. The overheating issue with videos is very isolated and only seems to occur depending on what you're doing with the camera. Also the issue appears to be something that doesn't look like it's isolated to the initial production cameras. The owner of the store did mention that many people are not purchasing the initial production run cameras for some reason and are requesting later runs of the units. Should I wait or pick up the camera that's already in stock? Also, has anyone had any experience using an A7R II with the Sony HVL-F43M flash? I know there are other options out there but I'm pretty much settled on the HVL-F43M unless someone has any negative experience with that particular flash? Thanks for the feedback!
  6. Hi all, Just received my A7RII and newest version of the MB IV T from BH the other day. All of my Canon EF lenses were working as expected until late last night. All of a sudden, every EF lens I had caused the camera body to gray out the Focus Mode setting and was listed as "Manual Focus". Every time I try to change anything with the focus mode, it now tells me that it is "Invalid with this lens." I have made sure that all of the lenses are switched to AF, firmware on the MB is 45, body firmware is 2.00, detached body from adapter and adapter from lens and reattached. Nothing has worked. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  7. One of my first pictures taken with the A7R II and the FE 70-200 F4. The fast autofocus of the A7R II makes it rather easy to capture dragonflies in the air.
  8. Has anyone been able to test the A7R II to see if it experiences the same color clipping issues as the A7S and other Sony cameras? I've seen it on both my A7S and my RX100 but It seems to happen more in the blue channel than anywhere else. Someone posted a good example of this phenomenon here: https://vimeo.com/107452261
  9. I am looking for the Eyecup/Eyepiece P/N for the Sony A7R II, any idea on where can I find it? thanks
  10. First of all, I never experienced that a battery was dead in three days when the camera was not even turned on. I have no explanation for those cases that were reported. Understanding the energy consumption of the A7R II helps to optimize the settings and to extend the battery life. Measuring the power consumption under various conditions gave the values below. The lens used on the camera was a Batis 2/25mm. The lens cap was on for a dark screen and off for a bright screen. Mode/Function (mA) Camera off (1.3) In sleep mode (1.3) Camera on and finder and monitor off* (241) Monitor dark or deactivated and LA-EA4 adapter on (250) Image review (253) Finder off, monitor dark or deactivated (295) Finder dark and monitor off (295) + Airplane Mode off (WiFi and NFC on) and remote control on (295) + Silent Shutter on (297) + SteadyShot on (315) Monitor bright (330) Finder bright (365) Finder bright, shutter release half pressed, AF on (400) Finder bright, shutter release half pressed, AF active (430) * Deactivating the monitor doesn’t shut it off. To really shut it off: Menu -> custom settings (wheel) -> tab 4 -> Finder/Monitor set to “Finder (manually)“. Now the monitor is really off. Only on a A7R II a toggle button can be defined, it doesn't work for any of the other A7 models: Menu -> custom settings (wheel) -> tab 7 -> Custom Key Settings -> C4 button set to “Finder/Monitor Select“ The C4 button has now become a toggle that switches between finder and monitor, so either the monitor or the finder or both become powerless. (You may use a different button as well). Start up times: After a battery change: 4,35 s Wake up from sleep mode or turning the camera on: 0,9 s. Conclusion: 1. Even when the camera is turned off, it drains the battery. The battery is empty after 33 days, even when the camera was not turned on. It is advisable to remove the battery when the camera will not be used in a longer period of time. 2. It makes no difference if the camera is switched off or if it is in sleep mode. Wake up time and battery power consumption are the same. 3. Airplane mode (WiFi and NFC off), and/or remote control off have no significant impact on battery life. 4. SteadyShot and AF increases the power consumption somewhat when the shutter release is half pressed. 5. The AF uses more energy while active. It is not a good idea to turn Pre-AF on, this results in a constant drain of battery power. 6. A brighter screen (monitor or finder) uses more energy than a darker one and the finder more than the monitor. Shutting off the monitor (as described above) helps to save energy. (When you don’t look through the finder, both, finder and monitor are off). 7. Keep “power safe start time“ reasonably short (one minute recommended). 8. Just a note: the AF system of the LA-EA4 adapter uses less energy than the internal AF system of the camera. 9. Setting auto review to off saves time and power. With optimized settings, one fully charged battery will hold up to 600-800 shots. I had recently a shooting with 750 images and 15 minutes footage of 4k video. I had to change the battery once and the second had still 51% at the end.
  11. Hello Sony Alpha Forum, My first post as a brand new newbie. I am in the queue at B & H for a Sony A7R II and my Loxia 50mm F2 is on its way from Japan. So although this first post mentions a potential, emphasis on potential, problem with the new version 2 of the A7R, this is NOT a troll. Please have a look at: diglloyd.com the main blog page. This issue of poor view on the EVF with manual focus lenses (while acquiring focus, if I understand) appeared yesterday Tuesday, August 4, probably late in the evening. Already somebody else has reported that the OP might have set his camera incorrectly. This is major for me. I sold my d800e last year, just before Photokina, and lost over $1500 on what I had paid for it only 2 years earlier. The fundamental reason for this fire sale: poor live view. This was fixed with the d810, but Nikon -by not issuing a firmware update on what I found to be such fundamental a problem- had definitively lost me as a customer. I only use manual focus lenses. So this post is addressed to people who are lucky enough to already have the camera and use manual focus (even better if you use a Loxia) and have their comments. Again this is really major for me, so any answer much appreciated. Frank
