  1. I have read that the A7rii uses magnets for its image stabilization feature. I have the MagMount system that features a very strong rare-earth magnet to allow you to quickly mount and dismount your camera. It actually worked pretty good with my other camera but I have been a little worried using it on my A7rii. I only use this on my walking stick for additional stability when I am hiking around and not on my tripod. Here is a link to the page (TechTrek Mag Mount) if you need more info on the camera mount system. Will this mount damage or cause issues with my camera? I am just worried about the magnet somehow messing up the image stabilization. Thanks
  2. Just purchased a new Sony A7R2 for an overseas trip and it accidentally fell of my lap - it only dropped about 18 inches but all the glass in the eye viewfinder smashed. I purchased from Adorama in NY online and live in Orlando. They don't sell parts. Can anyone recommend a good online Sony Parts store? Looks like 4 small screws would allow the viewfinder to be replaced.

  4. Here is my first edit from our recent trip to Hawaii. It was taken just before sunset on the Punalu'u Black Sand Beach on the Big Island. I used the A7RII with the FE 35mm f/2.8. Support was from the Manfrotto PIXI mini table top tripod. This tripod is stable enough for this setup if you don't touch the camera for a few seconds before shooting and use a wireless remote. I forgot to turn off the image stabilization (which I usually do when using a tripod) but that probably helps this weaker setup...no loss of sharpness or blur. I am continually amazed how much dynamic range you can get from this camera. Sea Turtle | Punalu’u Black Sand Beach, Big Island, HI by Jamil Abbasy, on Flickr
  5. Dear friends, I was about to purchase the Sony VG-C2EM battery grip in Amazon when I saw horrified the price tag on it; more or less 4 times more than an aftermarket such as Meike; if it at lkeast came with the two extra batteries then I would re-think it again. The Meike even comes with a remote control... I looked through this forum and to my surprise after searching till the 15th page, I just couldn't find any comments regarding battery grips, so I decided to write this post. Can someone give me any ideas or experiences about both the original VG-C2EM and aftermarket options? Thanks and best regards, Spanish Flyer
  6. Hi all! Brand new member making my 1st post and asking for your opinion. This past Xmas I decided to get me an A7RII with a Sony Vario-Tessar T* FE 24-70mm f/4, I'm still on the learning phase and ready to move on with other lenses, my choices are: the Sony Distagon T* FE 35mm f/1.4 or the Zeiss Batis 85mm f/1.8 - the idea is to use them for indoor photography with poor lighting conditions and maybe some landscape shots too. If you had to choose, which one would you go for first?
  7. I've been using this lens on my A7R II for around 2 Months now and I have to say, that I'm totally satisfied with it. The AF is quite quick and accurate on the Commlite EF to Sony adapter. AF-C works really nice in photo mode and okay in video. But in AF-C the HSM motor is a bit noisy. Sometimes the lens is not recognized by the camera. I don't know if that's a problem of the lens or the adapter. This happens around every 3rd time I turn it on. Maybe the Metabones adapter will do a better job, but I haven't tested that yet. Anyway, the 20mm f1.4 Art is a pretty amazing lens for landscapes, astrophotography, architecture and even people! It is always sharp in the center, and has a good sharpness in the corners at f2.8. There are nearly no flares, chromatic aberrations are acceptable for this focal length and the Bokeh is super-smooth! I can recommend this lens to all A7 II and A6300 users! But maybe it will perform a bit better with the Metabones adapter. Here is how the lens looks on the A7R II: http://imgur.com/Cc3hHyw And here are a few sample Images:
  8. Hi, yesterday I noticed for the first time a red dot in the middle left on the black screen in the EVF and the rear LCD screen on my A7RII, when I closed the lens with the cap. When I opened the lens, the red dot disappeared. It doesn't seems to be a pixel failure, because it is appears in both EVF and LCD screen. I updated the latest software version 3.20 without having any impact on the screens. Any ideas what the reason could be? Thanks in advance Joghivan
  9. I have an issue with purple noise in the top right corner of the sensor on low light / long exposure images. The issue was noticeable enough to cause problems while shooting the Milky Way this weekend on the night of the new moon. Has anyone seen this before? The image below was shot with a cap over the sensor, and the camera under a pile of blankets. Thanks!

  11. Do I always have to set the audio levels manually when recording video with the A7RII? Sometimes I really need auto audio levels. Does anyone know how to do this?

  13. I am one of the many who is transitioning to mirrorless from the Canon system (6D). I have been researching lenses and it's making my head spin. Until I decide which Sony or aftermarket lenses to get I will use the MC-11 adapter with my current setup. I have always used zoom lenses but am considering using primes with this camera. The biggest obstacle I have is budget. What lenses would be recommended for a new Sony shooter? Also, how are the aftermarket lenses with regards to sharpness/IQ? FYI, here is my current collection of lenses. - Tokina 16-28mm; use for landscape, architecture, etc. - Sigma 24-105mm; used as my general--purpose lens. - Canon 70-200 f/4; considering keeping this if the IQ with the adapter is good. - Canon 100-400; same as the 70-200 - Tamron 90mm Macro; used for macro So my immediate needs would be to cover from wide-angle to around 100mm, Thanks. I am new to this forum and this is my first post. One more day and I can pass out cigars.
  14. I boght a Sony A7RII 3 days ago. I love this cam but now I am so angry because I can't create timelapse video! My cam is connected to WiFi and my PlayMemories account. I am searching in apps(on cam & on Playmemories website) but there are not TIMELAPS app for install !!! Sony removed this app on A7RII ???
  15. Has anyone converted their full frame to infrared? If so, who is a reliable company to use? Thanks
  16. Hi all! New Sony A7RII owner here. I am looking for recommendations for a tele zoom to be used only on the A7RII. I am pretty flexible in terms of focal length and speed, and mostly interested in optical performance as well as price. Size matters, but it is not the most crucial factor. Basically, I wish to find a fairly affordable lens which gives a flat field and good, even sharpness across the frame, at least at f/8-11, preferably at f/4-5.6, too. The focal length range should cover at least 100-200mm, over 400mm is definitely not needed, and down to even 28mm range is a nice option (as long as the 100-200mm performance is strong). As the mirrorless Alpha system opens so many possibilities and my requirements are not dictated by the numbers on the lens barrel, I am quite at lost. In this focal length range, I have previously used pretty much all the Canon L zooms and many of the 70-300 type consumer lenses in EF mount. I have no experience on their performance on this new body, and I no longer even have access to any of those lenses. For adapted lenses, I anyway prefer a solution that is usable with a dumb adapter ring (Canon EF isn't). The intended use for the lens is mainly tight landscapes and cityscapes. I therefore require the 100-200mm focal length range, and sharpness across frame is very important. May print really big sometimes, and will definitely view big at 4k resolution (and higher as soon as available) including crops. I will certainly use the lens also for detail shots, portraits, and some wildlife and sports. However, sports and birds in flight etc. are no priority, and this need not be the most flattering portrait lens either. Manual focus is just fine, and I currently mostly use MF lenses. Lens speed is secondary, but an f/2.8 lens is interesting. I prefer constant aperture, but it's not a major consideration (and does not rule out the 28-200 type zooms, if there are good alternatives out there). Tripod ring on the lens is good to have, but not a requirement. I travel a lot, walk around and do plenty of hikes, so small size is nice. My initial thought therefore is buying two lenses for this tele-zoom-for-landscapes purpose: one good smaller lens, and one bigger lens with higher performance. If a single lens gets the job done, this allows spending more on it. The short-term budget is perhaps about 1000 EUR/USD (for one lens), but I really don't mind going cheap. I don't think I will spend more than 2500 EUR/USD for the one or two lenses combined, and I may not have that much right away. Good adapter should be included in the price, if it isn't a native lens. I have some adapters, but they may be too flimsy for large and heavy lenses, and I have not tested them on the full-frame body so far. In summary, what's your recommendation for: - Tele zoom covering at least 100-200mm - Sharp across the frame - May be native or adapted - May be AF or MF - As small and light as possible (optical performance more important) - Should not cost much more than 1000 EUR/USD (with high-quality adapter)
  17. From the album: Birds In Flight

Captured using the Sony A7RII with Sony 70-200 F4 FE lens. 140mm / F6.3 / 1/2000 / ISO 400 (auto ISO). I used the Wide Focus Area with Continuous Focus. This turned on focus tracking. I then used the back (AF/MF) button to turn on focusing and activated the shutter in bursts as the bird flew. The tracking worked excellently. About 90% of all my shots were in sharp focus.
