Techart Pro LM-EA7 M to FE autofocus adapter owners thread

Hi all,

I just received my adapter from techart (for you who are still waiting, i was no 603 in que).

My initial impressions is pretty good. Only tested it indoors in quite dim conditions and it perform pretty good.

As stated earlier, it also acts as a close-focus adapter which gives pretty crazy effects and bokeh with for example the CY 85/1.4.

The Zeiss 85 is a relatively heavy lens, and it works no problem. It has a pretty long focus throw and the adapter doesnt seem to cover the whole focus range when set to infinity, but its easily fixed by simply using it combined with coarse manual focus. the focus appears accurate to me.

Its also clear, that while some generic adapters works well with the adapter others wont.

Id imagine Im not going to be the only one with theese problems, So i suggest we just list experience here.

You CAN buy Techarts own special adapters which are guaranteed to work.

Let me start:

Fotodiox C/Y to M  WORKS.        I have so far only tested my CY 85/1.4

Fotodiox FD to M   do not fit

Next up ill try my canon ltm 50/1.5

Cheers

Suras,

I would be curious to get an update now that you've had the adapter for a week.

I am still sitting on the fence on this one, since I'm actually not unhappy with my hit rate with MF. What other CY lenses do you use? I have:

Distagon 2,8 / 28
Planar 1,7 / 50
Planar 1,4 / 85
Tele Tessar 3,5 / 200
Vario-Sonnar 4.0 / 80-200
Varion-Sonnar 3.3-4.0 / 28-85

Cheers

Marc

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi Marc,

Sorry for not replying.

I only got the 85 1.4 (love your collection...)

It handles the weight well i think, and it does focus very accurately, and relatively fast.

I think its also in credit of the very good contrast of the lens (as are the rest of the CY...)

I tried it on my canon LTM 50/1.5 and it works well too but my feeling is that it needs more light for the same focus speed compared to the 85.

This pretty much mirrors my experience focusing theese lenses manually. If they have the super crisp characteristics like the CY85 its a very clear transition for the adapter to optimize against (im speculating).

Also, for lenses with long focus distance you will have to assist it manually to be in the right range as the 4?mm the adapter is able to move isnt enought to cover the whole focusrange for longer lenses.

To me its not a problem at all as im used to manually focus theese lenses anyway.

The whole combo (Techart, Fotodiox M to CY) isnt noticably heavier to me than the quite chunky FE to CY adapters i used previously (metabones), but on the other hand, the package isnt particularly slim anyway with the big honking 85 at the end...

    • I'd really like to find a package deal for an a7R (mk I, second generation) which includes the neckstrap and box. I've searched Ebay and currently no one is listing what I'm looking for. They either have the camera only or a first generation a7R and a lot of them don't offer the Sony neckstrap or box it came in. I know your site doesn't have a formal 'Equipment For Sale' thread and granted Ebay is a better place to sell gear but I thought I'd see if any of the members have one and would like to upgrade to a newer model but don't think anyone would be looking for one that old. The cameras I've been using are in the 20 megapixel range and rather than jumping to a 40mp camera due to file size, the 36mp that the first a7R has was appealing to me and wouldn't break the bank. I've been using Canon and Nikon but really want experience a Sony. If a post like this is undesirable for this website, I understand but I thought I would ask. Thank you.
    • Here's a good thread on the issue.... https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4571046 And here is the info on the A7RIVA that maybe explains why I don't see the issue...  The change in wording that caught my attention is that the new A7RIVA brochure says the structure has been "re-examined and redesigned." Don't know, but given the text of other parts of the brochures are copied word for word, the change in text here seems significant. My reading of this is that it is a redesign of the A7RIV. In that case, perhaps the 200-600 issues are less severe with the new body.
    • I'd opt for a small zoom, but I must admit that there seems to be a dearth of lenses in the e-mount in the 24-50mm range -- for some reason.  I have a small 24-70mm, but that's an a-mount Tamron.  Maybe you can find something by looking at lenses slightly longer.  I have a heavy, but small 24-100mm a-mount, and Tokina made a 24-200mm a-mount.  Maybe there are similar lenses in the e-mount.  Kill three birds with one stone.
