can i use third party lens with adapter - nex-6?

hello,

i'm trying to use some other lens with an adapter (e.g. Pentax K-mount / NEX adapter) on my NEX-6
and getting the message "Cannot recognise lens.  attach it properly"
i've tried using different shooting modes (inc. manual) but same problem.
my friends can use the same lens & adapter combinations with their Sony A6700 with good results.
is there any workaround for this?
do i need to try another adapter or is the NEX-6 strictly limited to Sony E-mount lens?
i have the latest firmware version in the camera.

There should be a setting „shoot without lens“ which you have to activate when using adapted lenses.
